My wife and I are moving to Salem at the end of this summer because I am starting Law school at Willamette in the fall. We wanted to know where the good places to live were. We currently live in Philadelphia and would like to live as close to the "city" as possible. We only have one car and she may be working in Portland so we need to be either close enough to walk to the law school or on a bus line to downtown. Any suggestions on good area to live? Thanks.

Salem has an extensive transit system, so if you need to ride the bus, you're in luck...and you can catch a bus downtown from any part of the city.

South Salem and West are the most desirable parts of town, but have pricetags to match. North Salem is cheaper, but not as desirable. There are lots of apartments here though, and lots of bus stops. Downtown, where the school is, is pretty much right in the middle...so you can take your pick.

Good luck!
