Are you talking about the flats or the hills. Kingwood is a pretty big area. The flats have some crime issues and many of the homes aren't well maintained. You can go to the Salem PD website and they have crime maps online. Kingwood (up in the hills) is nice. Older homes, so they often need updating, but people live there forever and it is a really stable area.

It would be flats. We are looking at places on Franklin west of Kingwood ave. Ty for response. Drove by the area and it didn't look too bad. Homes seemed older and well maintained. From the crime map doesn't look much different than the south salem area we were looking at.

The neighborhood was built mostly in the 1920's and then there is the strip of new homes on Elm. From a Salem, OR perspective the homes aren't as well maintained as other neighborhoods, but people coming from larger cities would disagree.

If you are looking at some of the areas in South Gateway down south or Richmond area then the crime maps would be very similar. Honestly, it just depends on your comfort level with petty crimes.

Coming from Keizer. As long as feel safe walking down the street most times of the day, don't have to worry overly about getting the house broken into (with security precautions) or someone busting out my car window looking for spare change I'm reasonably comfy

You can call the PD but I don't think assaults and those violent kinds of crimes are a big issues there. Because the homes are older and often smaller, they either don't have a garage or people use the garage for storage and park their cars in driveways or on the street. Many of the older neighborhoods have car break-ins/thefts as an issue because cars are easy targets. You can call and ask the police, but I'll best most of the thefts were easy targets. They are opportunists. They looked for open garage side doors or open car doors and took stuff.
