Some areas of Taylorsville are very nice. Others? Not so much.

Move south a few blocks to West Jordan or below.

Taylorsville or West Jordan ...or somewhere else ....
Depends on what you are looking for.

Yes, yes yes ... There are some *questionable* areas in Taylorsville,
but very nice areas (and expensive ones) also.

I live in Taylorsville.
Wee bit less than an acre property.
average price now 400K for homes within a two block area.
Within *walking distance* of anything (almost) I *need*.
(Redwood road - 54th South Center)
Canal Water rights (lawn looks really good if you water to your hearts content ....)
Five minutes to Freeway access.
All the schools you need (before college) within 5 minutes (driving).
10 minute walk to City Park.
Police station - 5 minute walk.
Fire station - 5 minute walk
DMV - 5 minute drive.

Can't say anything about West Jordan .. I do not live there ...

So .... best way, drive around, get a *feel* for the particular neighbourhood.
How far to your work ?

Note: sometimes if going to work is in *wrong* direction - not bad if you drive further then *normal*.
*Wrong direction* - the usual main traffic is in a certain direction in the morning.
If you travel *the other way* not a bad trade off ......

Do this:
Get a good map of the area you like.
Find all the Points of Interest you need.
Figure you walk 3 mph (a brisk walk), and you limit yourself to a 15 minute walk.
Now draw a circle around all those points that is about 1 mile radius.
Figure you drive 25 mph, and limit yourself to a 10 minute drive.
Draw circles again that are 5 miles radius.
Now find the home you want in the intersecting circles.

I also live in Taylorsville--in a not so desirable, but safe area. I've been here for 12 years and I'm quite happy. I'm 10 minutes from the airport, 15 minutes from work and there's plenty of shopping & restaurants nearby. Our water & sewer rates are ridiculously low compared to other water districts in the valley.

As with any move, I would encourage you to rent for a while to figure out where it is exactly you want to live.

You didn't mention your lifestyle, interests, or transportation needs.

If your job is in Taylorsville, there are several surrounding towns/cities you could live in if you don't want to live in Taylorsville.

Taylorsville currently has 4 zip codes with no one post office servicing the whole city. The zip codes are: 84118, 84119, 84123, and 84084. Last year Taylorsville residents were mailed a letter asking their opinion about adopting the 84118 zip code and having our mail be delievered from the Kearns post office rather than four different post offices and zip codes. I haven't heard anything further as to what the results were.

Uhuh ... 10 minutes is nice (for us may be 15 ?), and a lot of our friends think so too.
Guess what, our drive way looks like a parking lot on weekends ...
(We can park 6 cars on our driveway and 5 on the gravel part of our front yard)

*Friend* : Can you give me lift to the airport ?
*Us* : Sure ...
*Friend* : can we leave our car in your drive way for a few days ... ???

Oh well ... what are friends for ... ???

I have been telling the birds to poop on their cars, and by golly, they complied ...
