Saratoga is NO WAY 20 min. from the airport. I live in West Jordan near Bangerter, and I can barely get to the airport in 20 minutes. I would recommend looking in Murray (central part of Salt Lake County). Would be convenient to the U (under 30 minutes) and also close to the airport (20-30 minutes). Plus, you would be close to shopping. The only downside is that the homes will be older.

Of course, I would also recommend Sugar House, but you will get an older home.
Atleast that long.. The summer might be tolerable but when its snowing, thats going to turn into one LOONNGG trip home.

There is NO WAY I would want to drive from Saratoga Springs or Eagle Mountain up to the University every day. I even like to drive, but that would have me checking into the funny farm in no time flat!

I'd also recommend living north of Point of the Mountain - somewhere in the Salt Lake Valley.... with quick access to the I-15/I-215. Homes may be cheaper in Utah County - but you'll pay in hours on the road.

When we first moved here (20 years ago) I worked up at the U College of Nursing (right next to the hospital) and the commute was a snap - 15-20 minutes and I'd be home - in Sandy. And this was before the I-15 was expanded just before the Olympics.

Now? Nothing less than 50 minutes to an hour. Each Way.

It's the Foothill Boulevard rush-hour crawl that's a real killer - and that's one of only two direct accesses to the U and the VA. The other is 4th - 6th South on the north end of the I-15.

I'd recommend the Avenues, Sugarhouse, Millcreek (33rd South/33rd East), Holladay, Olympus Hills, Midvale and Murray.

Good Luck.

I used to live in Saratoga Springs, and work at Foothill Village, it was a 36 mile commute for me, and the shortest time was 48 mins. Both the U and the VA hospital are down the street a couple of more miles. As for the airport....45 mins is average from Saratoga, taking Bangerter.

I would also recommend going north of downtown, in Davis County. Bountiful to downtown is about 20 minutes or so.

Of course, like others said, the closer you are to the east side of downtown (ie the Campus) the shorter your commute will be.

Good luck.

Bountiful is nice. We moved here from FL in 2008 and just sort of randomly picked it since it was relatively close to downtown where I work. There is a great bus/train system that can get you downtown quick. Schools seem good, nothing super-exciting in that department but my kids are happy. Its very family friendly, like most of Utah. Very low crime, in fact its kinda crazy how many people leave doors and cars unlocked around here.

We've enjoyed it and it would be tough for us to move away since we finally have some sort of roots here. If you have any other questions, let me know.
