Everytime I see you type something about Barberton, I just smile. Just kind of strange that there is someone out here from there where my inlaws live. Small small world.

Downtown Philly...where is that? I have quite a few restaurants running around in my head, but I can't put the names to them all right now.

I was BORN in Barberton. lol As were my kids. My sister married a guy from Barberton. & they make great chicken. I made the drive to Barberton from Akron (the SW side that borders Barberton) all the time. To go to KFC, Rally's (that I miss too) , Kmart, Parasson's, Angie's, Belgrade's, White House, Hopocan Garden, Durbin's Magic Freeze (White House, Hopocan, & Durbin's are owned by relatives of mine. lol) . What I find ironic about it all is, my school's colors are red & black, Barberton, our rival, are purple & white. Hubby's school's (Martins Ferry, Ohio) colors are purple & white, &, their rival, Bellaire's, are red & black. lol Sorry I went back 'home' for a bit. =)

Downtown Philly or DP, is in South Jordan, in the section where the Pie & Cafe Rios are. It's across the 'street' from Cafe Rio. Hubby said they also have a location downtown SLC now too. Not sure where though. =)

The downtown DP is in the Alphagraphics building, northwest corner of State and 300 South.

Well those are just really big houses for the most part. I guess Biltmore or Bolt could count, but they are located in areas who have to drive hours to get to, not really what I would call local by any stretch. The few they mention in Philly for example, no one in town ever thinks those are castles.

Speaking of food from other places, I'd like a Chicago dipped roast beef place (heaven!) & sandwiches like Primanti Bros back in Pittsburgh. Bread, vinegar slaw, fries, chesse & meat. Yummy! Of course, I miss Barberton, Ohio chicken too. Swenson's burger from Akron, best burgers ever! & potato teasers w/ ranch.

Oh, & Hungry Howie's pizza. I love their flavored crust! =) You could get any of the flavors on garlic bread too (I got onion flavor insead of garlic) . Cheap & good!

I'm sure I'll post when I think of something else. =)
Downtown Philly is okay, I mean they have the post-modern Tastykakes (that suck nowadays) but their cheesesteaks are in NO WAY even near Moochies, let alone something like Pats or Tony Lukes. But its at least a clean place (which is anti-cheeseteak IMHO). The other place that has a rep but doesn't measure up is the Philadelphia in Sandy. Its a dive and their cheesesteaks aren't very good.

Hungry Howie's pizza? Really? Ugh.

Um, yes, 'really'. Both are YOUR opinion, no need to try to talk down to me. I'd have let the 1st part go, your opinion, but the 'really' hit a nerve. I'm allowed to like things. Bread is hard to mess up. I didn't say I liked the pizza. Maybe my smiles are just too nice and make me an easy target. Sad.

Sorry I wasn't targeting you personally. I just was shocked to hear someone say they missed Hungry Howies pizza. Back in Florida, we had one at the gas station down the street and would get their $3 Tuesday pizzas for the kids. I thought it tasted similar to the cardboard box it was packaged in.

I'm surprised actually that there are none of them in SLC yet.

Did your husbands friend really like Downtown Philly better than Moochies? I am also shocked at that. Was it the food or just that DP was nicer/closer? Moochies is about the only place I can go around here for comfort food, so I am defensive I guess.

Well, we are about 1000 years too late for a "real" castle... but there are people in the US still trying. Check this one out in Arkansas:

For those that were here in Utah way back when (at least prior to 1980) there was a GREAT pizza place that made the most delightful think, crispy crusted pizza's I'd had. And I'm from Chicago so I KNOW pizza. They were fabulous and did a great job. I have NO idea how a junk pizza like Godfather could survive and this one didn't. It was "Der Rathskeller" for those that might remember. I sure did love them. So while we've gained some we've also lost some. I know that Jack N The Box left the state after a fiasco ensued with a single incident where a hamburger they served to a small kid ended up getting the kid very sick. They were sued and decided to pull up stakes in Utah to avoid other troubles. I'd love to have them back, but don't see it happening. My wife laments the loss of the original Snellgroves Ice Cream. But frankly it's worth a drive for either Culvers or Neilson's Frozen Custard. Iceberg does a decent job frankly As for pizza however in this town, they have a ways to go before they get it right. It's not there yet.

A recycling program! You know with a separate bin for stuff that can be recycled?

Trader Joe's, Sprouts, Fresh and Easy.

An NFL team.

Um that's all I can think of for now.....
