Two big stores opened today: H&M and Crate and Barrel. For both chains, this is the first UT location. A manager at H&M told me people started lining up at 9 pm last night and there were 1300 in line when they opened. At 2:30 this afternoon, the line to get in was about 1. 5 blocks long. They were controlling how many were admitted at a time.

Crate & Barrel was crowded but not impossible. There are 13-15 new stores in the mall, many are medium-high end. Parking was hellacious

I went to Fashion Place yesterday to meet up with friends for lunch - bad idea. That place was insane! I couldn't get out of Dillards because the crowds were so bad. I'd really love to get to C&B though.

I went to Crate & Barrel yesterday. It was really nice. Next door there was an actual line of people to get in H&M. More people were in the store itself. I guess they were only letting in a certain number at once or something. Personally, H&M does nothing for me, so I probably won't be visiting it any time soon.

H&M - never heard of it. Just did a little reading and come to find out there are three stores near where I live in MN.

According to the manager I spoke to, it is the 3rd largest chain in the world.

I was visiting New York City a few years back and called my daughter here in Salt Lake from the steps of St. Patrick's Cathedral. I told her I'd like to bring her something from my trip but had no idea what she might like. (She was in her mid-20s at the time.) She told me that if I ran across an H&M, I could go in and pick pretty much anything and be safe. I looked, and directly across the street from where I was standing was an H&M. I went in and bought her a purse, which she ended up really liking. I wouldn't shop there for myself, though, I don't think. The stuff I saw was pretty fashionable, but it struck me as kind of cheap quality.

I made the same mistake showing up at Fashion Place yesterday. It was a madhouse.

I was befuddled at the people looking for parking spaces when there were none. I parked on the side streets which were virtually empty.

H&M? Too young for me..... and Crate and Barrel is just an upscale IKEA.

Ick.

I did not find the shoes I was looking for either. What a waste.

Where is Fashion Place Mall? Is it close to Holladay, or is it downtown?
