Hello,

I will be going to grad school at the University of Utah. I am 35 years old and a single guy. I am wondering where the best place to live might be that would have the most singles around my age ... 30's or mid to late 20's. I am not LDS ... I have learned that doesn't matter as far as making friends ... but that it is very important when it comes to dating in Utah.

I am looking to be close to trax. I have thought about Emmigration Court or Brigham Apartments. I have a good job and will be going to grad school part-time, so I could afford the $1,000 rent that it seems one of those places would cost.

Does anyone have any recommendations on apartments in downtown SLC or close to the U? Am I better off in downtown SLC, the Avenues, or 9th and 9th area? Am I better off getting an apartment or looking for a room to rent from somebody that has a house?

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I can't recommend any buildings or complexes specifically as it's been years since I've looked for a rental. But I'd stay downtown or adjacent to the University if I were you (though University adjacent might be a little "loud and young" for a graduate student!).
The Aves and 9th & 9th are nice, and very walkable, but neither feels very close to TRAX in the middle of a winter snowstorm! If I were a single guy, I'd also like to be closer to nightlife than the Aves or 9th & 9th are.
