For anyone who lives towards the southern end of Saratoga Springs on the west side of Utah Lake, can you tell me if you get pollution during the winter inversions? It would seem like the pollution would be less if the prevailing winds blow from west to east, yes, no?

The biggest reason we have winter inversion *pollution* is the *lack of wind*
The more south of the Great Salt Lake you are, the less *pollution* you might encounter.

Salt Lake *sits* at 4700 feet, the area you mention sits at 5500 feet or so.
So you will have just a tad less, even with NO wind.
The *muck* settles in the lowest parts of the valley !

So ... , if there is wind, do not hold your breath ... , no problem !

irman, where did you read that Saratoga Springs is at 5500 feet? I read that it's at 4500 feet in two sources - city-data.com and wikipedia.com...

Frankly Utah County (of which Saratoga Springs is IN) has some of the worst pollution inversions in the winter of all the areas, so I'd have to say YES indeed they get plenty of it. I've driven through there before during those periods and it's pretty smoggy if I do say so. You would have to drive West from there to get out of it.

So I checked some area to the west of Utah lake and it was that altitude.

It may well be that there are lower areas, especially near the waters edge ?
