I am hoping thee activities will be helpful in developing a social life, since I am moving alone & don't know anyone.

I think you may be right about the sensitivity issue - I don't really care what anyone else thinks of me, and probably wouldn't even notice subtle looks of disapproval if they occurred.
I have neighbors that used to come once a year to ski until they decided it would be cheaper to live here and ski all the time. That was close to 25 yrs ago and yes, they're non-LDS (in fact, a lesbian couple). They have friends who moved here for similiar reasons. So come ahead!

I am moving back South to be near family. I also soured on the political situation here, but you may take it differently. Good luck.

Emigration Canyon is the place for you, if you can find a place to rent. Drive up 8th South, pass Hogle zoo, and follow the main road up the canyon to the top, looking for "for rent" signs .There are sometimes cabins to rent, there is a pretty ratty one right now for rent across from the Sun and Moon Cafe. The main canyon road is the place to look, there are a few expensive subdivisions, Emigration Place and Emigration Oaks, forget those, no rentals there. Pretty much need 4 wheel drive in the snow but the culture is strictly outdoors and cool, and little pollution in the winter.

Good for you! I've lived here all of my life.....and I don't care what others think of me either. I'm not here to please them, I'm here to live the best life I can...I don't need or want their approval. Many times I don't fit in but I'm just fine with that.

Thanks, I'll check it out! No ratty cabins, though - I want a nice place!

we know, we know. I'm still wondering why you ever moved there - if I was not a skier/outdoors person, I doubt I would, although many other aspects appeal to me as well.

I read your post, and it seems like we have a lot in common. I'm a 33 year old Social Worker from Philly who loves the outodoors, and my boyfriend and I are moving to the Summit Park area on August 1st!

Hi Phillygirl,

I realize this thread has been dead for a couple of weeks or more, but I wanted to reply to your message and welcome you to Summit Park (a little in advance of your actual arrival). I see that earlier you asked about dogs and trails and someone sent you a portion of one of my posts from the past. It is totally a great place to live with dogs!

My b/f and I have lived here 3 years. Moved from Maryland. Have 2 dogs. Still can't believe how lucky we were to buy a house in Summit Park without really having a clue about the area. It was pretty much what we could afford, so we bought it and hoped for the best. We love our neighborhood and the access we have to trails. It's also nice to be at the top of Parleys for a quick commute to SLC or downtown Park City.

But, I won't kid you - you do have to embrace the snow... there is plenty of it to embrace! The summers are just spectacular... short, so you soak up every bit of it that you can. My family always nags me to come back to Pennsylvania for a visit in the summer and I tell them that I refuse to leave here in the summer.

If you'd like, shoot me a private message at eerygurl at hotmail dot com. We'd love to meet you and your boyfriend after you arrive on August 1st.

Cheers,
Pam
