We have decided to rent a nice condo in Bountiful since I just got a new job in downtown SLC.

Anyone got some words of advice for new Bountiful residents? When is the Woods Cross Frontrunner station opening? Do you think its worth it to travel to downtown (1 station away)?

Thanks

What do you mean by station? When Trax starts running?

Non-rush hour Bountiful/Woods Cross is 15 min from SLC downtown. Rush hour? More! If you will be working in SLC you probably don't want to go way uphill (east east) in Bountiful.

The new Frontrunner station. Commuter rail, not Trax light rail.

Hi there!

We moved to Bountiful in August. My husband doesn't work in SLC but commutes even farther to American Fork. It takes him about 35 - 40 minutes since he goes against the traffic south of SLC.

I really don't know enough about the commuter rail to know if it's worth it. When I drive into downtown mid-morning (not rush hour I know), it takes me under 10 minutes.

For me personally, we are so extremely close proximity wise to downtown, that I don't think it would be worth it to not have my car. But you should just try the rail a couple of times and see how it goes.

If you have any other questions about Bountiful, feel free to ask!

I don't mean traffic neccessarily. When you start heading uphill, there aren't (m)any arteries, it is all residential neighborhoods. So there is lots and lots of small roads, add that to UPhill in bad weather, it can take FOREVER! But, pretty

Since we are on the subject, what time is rush hour there? Here its like 7am-10am and 3pm-7pm. So as long as I leave my house by 6:30am, its not a problem.

LOL, sp...where are you? We moved from Southern Cali so yep...those were basically the rush hour times in Los Angeles...

Here in Bountiful, rush hour seems to last only about an hour...but I'm not the expert since I don't drive it...

But the busy times seem to be 7:30 - 8:30 and then 5:00 - 6:00.

My husband usually leaves by 7:00 am and he gets to work easily before 8:00 am (he drives 38 miles to American Fork). In LA, the same distance took him at least 2 hours.

When he leaves later like around 8:00 am, he still easily gets to work by 9:00 am. But, he is going against the traffic south of SLC.

If I try to go to Target which is in Centerville (only a couple of fwy exits north) at 5:00 pm, I'm sitting in heavy traffic (all the commuters heading into north Davis county communities - Kaysville, Layton, Farmington, etc). What is typically less than a 10 minute drive to Target midday is about 20 minutes sometimes during rush hour.

Oops, sorry, we are coming from Orlando.

We are real excited to move to Bountiful. My wife loves Super Target.

Thanks for the info. Any other advice?

Okay...I spoke to hubby about his commute more...

If he leaves at 7:00 am, he gets to work in about 30 - 35 minutes. If he leaves at 8:00 am, it takes him 45 minutes. He did, however, say, that the commute home is the beast...but since you're only coming from downtown, there's a nifty back road you can take that will surpass the traffic. It gets pretty congested on the 15 north and Hwy 89. I can't remember the street name - but it basically takes you through downtown (I think it may be State street) and then you take this road that parallels congested Hwy 89 and then it dumps you off right at the intersection of Hwy 89 and Eagleridge which is technically North Salt Lake. I'll try to get more details.

Then you can take Orchard Drive north to get to wherever you are in Bountiful.

As for other advice, hmmm...what are your interests? Do you have kids?

Just basic top of mind stuff:

-Neilsen's Frozen Custard on 2600 South - YUMMY burgers, sandwiches, and of course, custard - gets very packed on Friday nights (you see a lot of couples there for date nights). But well worth the wait!

-Super Target in Centerville is also across the street from the new Super Wal-Mart.

-Home Depot is next to Super Target also

-In Bountiful, a new Lowe's just opened up next to Costco.

-If you like going to the gym, Gold's Gym is pretty much right in the center of Bountiful

-If you're driving at all around 8:00 am or 2 - 4 pm, LOOK OUT for SCHOOL ZONES. They are ALL OVER THE PLACE. When the light blinks, you MUST slow down to 20 MPH. Cops will sit on HWY 89 just to nab people who forget to slow down. On Hwy 89, you are literally slowing down to 20 MPH from about 45 MPH. But they're also on Orchard and even on smaller residential streets - anywhere where there's a school

-The Gateway in downtown is literally under 10 minutes away...their theaters have reserved seating which I LOVE!

-If your wife likes boutique-type shops, Main Street in Bountiful has quite a few of them and some with reasonable prices

-Gardner Village (further south of SLC) in West Jordan is also a fun place to shop and go on a date

-If you're coming during the winter months (like in the next couple of months), make sure you have SNOW TIRES. I don't have 4 wheel drive on my Expedition since I bought it in Cali 4 years ago, but the snow tires make a world of difference. My dh drives a little Mitsubishi convertible but his snow tires work great - especially on the roads where the snow plows just haven't gotten to yet (our little street sometimes!)

Anyway..that's all I can think of right now...when is your move?
