My partner and I are considering relocating from Tampa, Fl to SLC due to a new employment opportunity. Originally, we were looking to move to the Park City area as it appeared to be more diverse and accepting of alternative lifestyles, but it I think we have been priced out of of the market over the last few years. We are male, 47 and 52 respectively, fairly conservative, of medium income, and do not flaunt our relationship. We are somewhat social and like to shop and eat out fairly regularly. Can someone offer some advise on acceptable neighborhoods to live where we won't have to worry about cross-burnings, bible-shouting, or other negative issues?

I hope people will answer this post for you, that is a big move to a very different environment. I know I had trouble moving to Oregon from Massachusetts for various reasons so really check the place out before you move.

The best places will be Marmalade/Capitol Hill, Avenues and Sugar House

I would definitely stay in Salt Lake City proper. It is much more diverse and accepting than the rest of the Salt Lake Valley.

I know a couple gay couples who have homes in the Capital Hill area. They love it there.

In agreement with the other posts...Sugar House would be great! It's such a nice charming community with fabulous shopping (fun boutique-type stores as well as major chains) and so close to downtown (you'll love The Gateway for shopping, movies, and concerts).

Good luck!

Thanks all for the posts.. gives us a good idea of where to start looking. What about crime in the Sugar House area? Is that something of concern?

I know a few people who have had cars stolen there. Crime stats aren't great, if you check online. But it's no ghetto, either.
