Hello all!

I currently live in Idaho, and am considering a move with my 2 small children to North Ogden.

I just have a few quick questions. What is crime like? I've heard Ogden has it's share of crime, does any of this spill over into North Ogden? Can I feel safe walking around at night with my 2 small children?

What is rush hour traffic like? Is it bad? What about traffic in general? Do most people obey the rules of the road? Where I currently am in Idaho, there are many speeders and lots accidents.

Also, are there newer parts of N. Ogden? Or is it mostly an older rural town?

What are the people like here? Is it a friendly atmosphere?

And lastly, where do most people do their shopping? Is there enough stores/businesses/restaurants in N. Ogden, or will I need to travel to other nearby cities?

Thank you and Happy Holidays all!

Crime is a consideration in downtown Ogden, but North Ogden is quite safe. You would be safe walking at night with your two small children.

Utah drivers on the whole are not the best drivers in the country. However, I feel similarly about Idaho drivers. I think the driving situation is likely to be quite similar for you when you move.

Yes, there are newer parts of North Ogden. Also, consider the adjacent communities of Pleasant View and perhaps, Plain City. You'll find a mixture of newer and older housing.

I don't live in North Ogden. I work in Ogden and that's how I know the area. I assume people reasonably friendly.

What kind of shopping are you looking for? There is a Walmart down near five points which is about a mile or two from the center of North Ogden. There is very little high quality shopping in the Ogden area. Stores like Dillards are limited to one place, the Newgate Mall at 36th Street and Wall Avenue. You can find an assortment of stores like Target, Ross's Dress for Less, Sears, and Kohl's near there.

In my opinion, North Ogden is short of many businesses. There are few restaurants there other than fast food outlets. There are a couple of restaurants in the Ogden Mall in downtown Ogden.

Thank you and Happy Holidays all!
Your welcome.

North Ogden is a somewhat sleepy bedroom community with excellent schools and comfortable neighborhoods. Crime is low - I wouldn't be too concerned about walking at night. You'll find a big Smith's grocery store, a few specialty shops, a pharmacy, a Home Depot, a multiplex theater, a few medical and dental clinics, and a golf course. You'll probably head south to the Newgate or Layton Hills malls if you're interested in finding more variety. As MarkG mentions, there are drive-ins and fast food places, but no nicer restaurants. I have heard that the lack of restaurants is because North Ogden City has even stricter requirements for liquor licenses than the rest of the state. Overall, I would consider North Ogden to be a very nice place to live.
