Hello there, my family and I are moving to Sandy, Utah in 13 days. My boyfriend (he used to live in SLC and was mormon) and I are not religious and live together with my 5 year old son. We are moving there for economic reaons from Portland, Oregon. My question is how LDS is Sandy? Will my son be left out because he will not be involved in the church. I raise him to respect other religious views and I hope that the community can respect my decision to raise my kid without religion (I was brough up Lurthern.) Will making friends be difficult for him? Will my nieghbors hate me for my caffeine addiction and because I have wine or a daquiri from time to time?

What are the public schools like? Can you recommend a decent elementary school in Sandy?

What is the best and most affordable child care center around (I work full time.)

Does the church have influence in public schools?

Thanks for any help you can be

The LDS church has virtually NO INFLUENCE in Utah public schools

There are plenty of good elementary schools... Sandy is a nice area.

Caffiene to Mormon's is much like speeding on the freeway.... most Mormons... even the good - church going type - consume caffienated soda sometimes. Coffee... no... but soda.... absolutely. Alcohol on the other hand is more frowned upon... you won't find too many practicing Mormon's drinking alcohol. Still... most people are polite and keep their personal convictions to themselves... just like everywhere else in America.

I totally disagree. But this isn't a religion forum and I will refrain from taking this any further. Perhaps we both had totally different public school experiences.
