Hi there!

I currently live in Denver, Colorado and I'm considering moving to Ogden next month, in part, to find a more affordable and less crowded place to live.

I'm single, in my 40s, love the outdoors (although I don't ski or board). I run my own online business, and work from home and coffee shops. I do enjoy being able to walk to places (coffee shops, restaurants) and also enjoy being close to trails and water (lakes, rivers).

What are some of the pros and cons of living in Ogden itself and where are the best areas of Ogden to live? I am looking to rent.

Thank you!

Scott

P.S. I do have a couple of friends in the Valley but worry it might be a bit too isolating for me (and not sure about the affordability).

There are several apartment complexes in the mouth of Ogden Canyon. You can find them pretty easily just by driving around.

If:

1. I were single;
2. I wanted to rent;
3. I wanted to live in Ogden rather than in a surrounding community; than

I think an apartment in the mouth of the canyon would be the most satisfactory place to live. Avoid any place in Ogden that is west of Harrison Boulevard and between 2nd Street and 40th Street. That's what I would call the "bad" part of town.

Great! Thank you so much for the tips, Mark!

Moderator cut: not allowed I would recommend Woods Cross or Farr West if you were buying. Woods cross for the value and Farr West for the appreciation.

There doesn't seem to be apartments in the mouth of the canyon unless I'm missing something.

I wondered about that myself.

There is an older complex on Valley Drive above the El Monte golf course, but that's all I remember at the mouth of the canyon. There are several smaller apartment complexes along Harrison, but be aware that odds are good that your neighbors are college kids from Weber State. If you're interested in South Ogden or Washington Terrace, try Christopher Village or the Falls. There are a few condos at the base of the mountain off 46th S that have great access to the Ogden Trails network (if you can find one) and there are also tons of condos in Washington Terrace.

The rental market in Ogden and surrounding areas is pretty tight right now - I'm shocked to see how much rent is in my old neighborhood.
