Hi everyone - I'm relocating to SLC from GA and am wondering where the best place to live for a non-LDS, single, 30-something female to live. My work will be in the northwest area of the city and I understand I would not want to live there. I'm looking to rent an apartment to start with a budget of about 1300k/mo. I have a dog, no kids. Would the downtown area closer to East Central with the TRAX system be ideal or living in Sandy with a 15 mile commute be better (would have to commute 5 days a week during rush hour on I-15)? It would probably be a safer neighborhood in Sandy and I could afford a much nicer place but I'm worried about the commute because of my inexperience with winter driving as well as the horror stories I've heard about UT drivers (I'd hate to further the bad reputation!). I do like the proximity to hiking trails in Sandy as the outdoors are my biggest draw to the area. The idea of downtown is nice due to proximity of events and shopping but probably less safe to walk around in alone. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!

I'd suggest someplace near downtown or somewhere right close to a Trax line. Sugar House would probably fit the bill perfectly. Sandy's nice, as is Cottonwood Heights, but for a single person, I think you'd feel kind of like a fish out of water. Sugar House is a great neighborhood, safe and easily accessible to downtown. It's also very centrally located within the Salt Lake Valley.
