I need help with two questions:

1. Looking at moving to South Salt Lake to an apartment complex called Riverfront Apartments. Is this a decent area? From what I can see the apartments look nice and reviews are good. I just dont want to end up in the middle of gangland and I don't have anyone to check the neighborhood out for me.

2. I will be moving at the end of January. I understand that I need to watch the weather as the trip gets closer but is there a preferred route to take with less mountains or wind? Just want to take the overall safest route. I-80 or I 90.

Honestly, that's not a great area, although the apartments themselves (based on the pictures from their website) do look nice. If you have any other options, I'd maybe reconsider this choice. Where will you be working?

I'd suggest that, as you said, you wait until closer to the time you'll be moving to make this decision. I'm not really familiar with the conditions on I-90, but I-80 is generally good.

I will be working about 5 miles east of those apartments. That is the main reason why I chose them.

What are some areas you would recommend? We're looking for a two bedroom apartment till we buy a house. Our rent budget is $1300/month max.

I'd suggest you start by looking in Sugar House. Millcreek would also be a decent option. They'd be my first two choices, based on where you'll be working. A good rule of thumb would be to try to stay east of I-15. That's not to say that all neighborhoods west of I-15 are bad and that all neighborhoods east of it are good, but for the most part, that would be true.
