I’ve been wanting to move to the Mountains to be near skiing, tubing, hiking, somewhat near water like a river or so- we want to be able to enjoy that on a regular basis. Would we be able to fit in since we’re not LDS Mormon. What would you recommend as far as a great place to live. I’d be moving with my wife and 3 young kids. If not Salt Lake City then where our West would you recommend living based on the criteria below!

•Need good schools
•within 30-45mins of Salt Lake City for work
•Housing under $300k
•Safe Area
•Good Mountain Access

We’ve visited Denver, but the cost of living is super high. We’re wanting a change from Memphis! Thanks.

My first observation is that you will have difficulty finding housing for a family of five for a budget of under 300K. I didn't say it was impossible, but you won't have a big selection. Housing furthest from the mountains tends to be the cheapest here along the Wasatch Front of Utah.

Heber/Midway although your commute will be closer to 1 hour to SLC but it’s a beautiful place with access to the mountains a reservoir and park city.

Bountiful and Farmington will have some housing options in your price range with excellent access to the mountains and hiking. Although you would be a bit further for skiing (say 1 hour from your driveway to Alta and Snowbasin.

Copperton is in the $275k range, but houses don’t come up for sale often and there’s no river. It’s 35 minutes to downtown & 45 minutes across the valley to the base of Big & Little Cottonwood Canyons.

You may also find what you’re looking for in the Snoqualmie - North Bend area east of Seattle. If you’ve watched Twin Peaks, that’s Snoqualmie.
