Sampan is ok, but the service there is almost always surly. We like Joy Luck on S State St much better.

They use a lot of peanut sauces. Lot of yummy noodles and soups.
If you like Vietnamese you'll probably like Thai.

No not spicy at all. At least nothing I've ever had. If a dish is really spicy they say so and I never order those. But all the Vietnamese dishes I've had haven't been spicy at all.

We used to love the Paris Bistro on 1500 S 1500 E...some fairly decent French bistro food in Utah! Unfortunately, we won't be going back now. While the food was always good and the atmosphere was terrific (a great little neighborhood spot!), the service was always slow, inattentive and dismissive. We accepted this as a matter of fact. However, I guess the economy has taken its toll on the restaurant. Their wonderful Salade Nicoise entree is now served on a small salad plate instead of a dinner plate. When you charge $27 for this, that is not much food. Their $29 Grilled New York Strip was not an actual loin strip steak, but rather a much cheaper hunk of sirloin! But I was most upset to be charged $5 for a watered-down iced tea (glass was full of ice), then another $5 for a refill (refills used to be free!). It's a shame, really, because it was one of our favorite restaurants. Well, we still have Bambara and Flemings!

I'll do my best to describe Thai...

YUMMY! They use lots of coconut, bamboo, curry (you can order it mild), peanuts and lemongrass in their cooking. It *feels* healthier than eating Chinese, maybe because the curry raises your heart rate and you feel like it's doing wonders for your metabolism. I enjoy Thai food tremendously.

Not sure if you like Italian... Biaggi's is delicious! They have a beautiful wine list, and a good assortment of beers as well. And the fact that it's adjacent to the Gateway shops makes it all the more appealing to me. I also enjoy the steaks and cocktails at Spencers. It's inside the Hilton. I think they serve an amazing angus burger, too, if memory serves me correctly. Prepare to pay a lot, but you'll remember that meal forever!
