Hi - this is my first post (ever) - we are relocating to work in the Salt Lake City area, West Jordan specifically, from South West Michigan and we would like to bring our horses, so we will need at least 5 acres. The living conditions don't need to be perfect, we have remodeled plenty of homes.

I am perfectly happy with anything less than an hour for drive time and would really like to be at least in the foothills if not in the mountains.

Any advice?

There are still some 5 acre lots in Tooele County, although we aren't in the foothills. I believe there is still some land in Herriman too. That is more expensive though and that isn't in the foothills either.

Not sure how much you are looking to spend, but here is one in Salt Lake County
Single Family Home - Salt Lake City, UT, 84108 - Realtor.com (http://www.realtor.com/search/listingdetail.aspx?ctid=1309&ml=3&typ=1&ofbm=10&si d=630405abd4e54de2bbba84155983f76a&lid=1098905299& lsn=1&srcnt=3256#Detail - broken link)

I looked here in Tooele County and there are several in Erda that have five acres and are very nice homes starting at about 400K for the home and land. I looked on realtor.com and narrowed the search to only homes with 5 acres. I will post the link, but I am not sure if it will work or not.

Good luck with your move!

There is area zoned as horse property in West Jordan. It will be in the "older" area of the City for the most part. I would contact West Jordan (website: www.wjordan.com) and have them tell you the specific areas zoned for horses.

Thank you, the links both worked and we will have to take a look while when we go out next month if they are still available.

Are you already there or still in process? What type of work are you in?

By the way, West Jordan is basically in what everyone calls Salt Lake City (as in the same metro area), so you'd have well less than an hour's drive living there. From a southwestern Michigan standpoint (I just picked a city there), Parchment is to Kalamazoo as West Jordan is to Salt Lake, except West Jordan has 100,000 people.

We live in a horse friendly neighborhood just outside Park City. Each lot is around 3 acres and there are trails for riding all over (great for biking and running as well). Our house is currently listed as we are trying to move to St. George - PM me for more info if you are interested.

I've been to West Jordan a number of times visiting our facilities, it is basically part of SLC but to pick a location to live it helps to have an actual destination point to draw the line from - that's the only reason I mentioned it.

Thanks for the help though!
