I posted the news in the sport sub-forum, but I wanted to start this thread esp. for the SLC citizens. You guys may get to host the winter games, again!!!! With the recent tensions in Russia and Georgia, the IOC members got together in Beijing in a secret meeting. This has been done before, Munich and Atlanta. The word is getting out that the host city for the 2014 winter games may be taken from Sochi, Ru. and be given to either Nagano (1998) or SLC (2002)

Get ready guys....You may be hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics. The IOC needs to make a decision quickly b/c it's only 5 1/2 years away.

I know the IOC makes the decision on this, but do you guys want to host again? IMO I think it would be great!!!!!

I called your NBC affiliate, KSL, and they are investigating! Keep your fingers crossed!

Yeah!!! That would be awesome. I kinda regret that we didn't go downtown a little more to catch the Olympic spirit. I think it was really good for SL and Utah in general in dispelling a lot of ignorance about the state and putting SLC more on the international map. I've noticed sinced we hosted the Olympics there has been more shows and stuff that come here.

Funny you should post that. My daughter was only 5 when the olympics came through the first time. She asked the other night while we were watching the olympics if they came again, could we go this time? I said sure, not thinking that they would come again anytime that she would still be living at home.

Now that my girls are older and could sit still and actually get some enjoyment out of going to see them, yes, I do hope they come again.

Ummm, I hope to be gone before that happens. That said, I think people are accustomed to what it takes and will do it beautifully again.

I think Salt Lake City is way more prepared to host the Olympics. By 2014, we will have the TRAX line to the Airport, the Jordans, Draper, FrontRunner to Provo, City Creek Center will be completed, and so on. If we benefited so greatly from '02, I'd be stoked if they chose us again! I doubt it will happen though, it's only been twelve years and if they actually did choose us there would be an outcry among other cities as to why they didn't get picked. But we can hope

Don't lose hope...Denver originally elected to host the Winter Games for 1976. But the public put a vote not to spend public money for the games and the IOC had to chose a new city. That city was Innsbruk. Innsbruk hosted the winter games in 1964 and again in 1976. Twelves Years! So it's not far fetched.

That would be great. The 2002 olympics were fun and memorable to everyone who was here to see them.

It'll be fun to see if Utah can convince the IOC to pick it without the bribes and corruption they used in 2002.
