Hello everyone! My husband and I are moving to SLC for his new position, and we want to live downtown near transportation as I am unable to drive (due to disability). We applied at Northgate apartments, and we were excited about it & ready to proceed, until I read online reviews that said the place has mold, people defecating in hallways, crime, and a poor response time to issues with broken appliances, etc. Some other reviews were positive. Is this building bad or good? What about the management company? Is it loud there? Lots of parties? We are quiet and can handle some train noise, but not party noise and certainly not crime or mold. What about Emigration Court?

Emigration Ct is pretty new and looks to be expensive. DOn't know anything about it, just pass it while driving around.

Thanks, SouthernBelle! I am so glad I found these boards; they are helping me ease into this move and get a feel for different aspects of Salt Lake City. We are used to insane housing costs in Portland, Oregon, so Emigration Court actually looks inexpensive by comparison. Crazy, I know!

I just googled Northgate b/c I had never heard of it. Personally, I would not want to live there. It's a few blocks away from Pioneer Park, which is the homeless hangout in the daytime. The shelter and free clinic are at 400 South and 300 or 400 West. The Gateway is pretty busy. But that's just me - I have always lived near but not in a downtown.

Thank you, thank you! This information is exactly what I needed. Northgate is out for sure. Too bad we had to pay an application fee. But we would rather be out that money then end up in a crime-ridden area or an apartment with mold problems (saw that on a few reviews). So we are applying now to Emigration Court. I am a bit nervous about living near/with so many students, but I can tolerate any noise from young kids MUCH better than fear of crime, mold, or other issues. This place has some good reviews, and it is close to everything I need. Once we live there, we can look at other neighborhoods or even for a house.
