I told you, my DD would love to sit for him! That is, if you wouldn't mind a sitter in Tooele County. We have trailer parks, you know.

LOL!!! I've lived in several trailers in my lifetime, but I wouldn't think of it now that I'm 28, single and looking for Mr. Right I have no problem driving to Tooele county and I will probably take you and your daughter up on that, because I won't hardly know anyone when we get there

I live in Santa Fe, NM right now so am pretty spoiled with weather...have all seasons but sunny over 300 days of the year!! From what I have been reading seems like SLC is very similar in climate to Santa Fe....???

ROFL. I am sure you will find Mr. Right now that you aren't living in a trailer. Bwahhahaha...
Anyway, I hope you do take us up on it, as long as he doesn't mind being around dogs. We have three. They are not big though. THEN, you can come on here and post to her that you have visited my house and I don't live near the park like she is sure I do because I am so defensive about it.
I promise she is a great sitter and we would take good care of him.

Dogs and animals in general are no problem. My mom has a farm........7 horses, five (big) dogs, 50 or so head of goats and a potbellied pig. That kid has been around more animals than some kids are in their lifetime.....lol I will by happy to testify to Daisy that you in fact, do NOT live outside the trailer park when we come over..........lol.

No. We have 4 distinct seasons and it is very dry here most of the year. But no way do we have anything close to 300 days of sun! In Jan or Feb, can't remember which, we had a week of inversion where I couldn't see the mountains or the other side of the valley. Last week was gray and cloudy for much of the week. Then there's snow days in winter, the "monsoon season" (what a laugh to someone from New Orleans), and just winter gray days.

Hi, if you are coming from Santa Fe, you will be horribly disappointed in the SLC climate. At least in the winter, it can be quite severe, not talking a great deal of snow (we've had 49" so far this winter), but as Southerbelle pointed out, we get horrible inversions here, with no wind to break up the mucky, smoggy haze. Basically, if it has snowed, and it's in January or early February, a fog like haze will envelop the valley and you have to head up the mountains to see blue skies and yes even warmer weather. It is called an inversion because the higher you go the warmer it gets and when you get out of valleys, the cleaner the air. I know Denver has a similar phenomenon, although Denver isn't completely surrounded by mountains, so they tend to get more wind which will cleanse the air out. Denver also claims around 300 days of sunshine and that isn't just hazy, it can be blue skies and upwards of 70 in January, Feb, and March. Also, most of the precip in Denver falls in the fall and winter. Granted, Denver does get a few days a year of Arctic chill, after all it's a straight shot to Canada, but usually warms right up after a few days. All in all, I do prefer the Denver climate, and the summers are quite dry and usually under 90 or so. My sister doesn't even have an ac in their house.

Oh, forgot to mention when you get a winter inversion the sun is blocked out and so is the warmth, I've seen weeks of below freezing weather, then none of the snow melts. The inversion is enhanced by snow on the ground, due to moisture, etc. So if the snow doesn't melt it takes a vigorous storm system to move in to blow out the haze and allow it to warm up albeit temporarily until the next storm comes through. Then the cycle starts anew.

I think if you have a love for a balance of outdoor activities and that occasional jaunt downtown for a good time with drinking and dancing, you will be just fine in Utah. I'm 26 years old and while I didn't frequent the bars all the time, there are a few that you may find you will really like. If you're into beer, I suggest checking out the Bayou which has many different beers on tap, also Squatters downtown. If you like piano bars, there are a couple good ones downtown as well. I also liked going to Green Street that is located where the trolley square mall is. I live in Austin, TX now and not many places can compare to how many bars are in this small town, but trust me, if you are willing to go into the nightlife that does exist in a place like SLC, I think you will be pleased. Have fun! Utah is not as bad as everyone makes it sound. If there is one thing I have learned, do not listen to what anyone has to say about Utah that has never lived there. You cannot possibly know how to keep your judgements away unless you experience something firsthand. On the flipside, I'm not the smartest person in the world, I just know that it grew on me in ways I'll never be able to explain!

I think it is what you make of it, not that SLC is bad of course, but I've lived here 6.5 years, I've experienced it, I've given it a chance, and I've had a miserable time. I, on the other hand was born in Austin, and lived there last in 00-02 before moving here. I do love it, and Texas in general, but I do like to do things outside, and it's just too darn hot down there to do things for most of the year.

Here in SLC, I've biked, city and mountains, walked alot (although there have been some pretty close calls walking downtown) and just get out to the park much more than I ever did in Texas. It's that humidity down there that really takes it out of you. But I miss it. Now I only have family in CO and TX, so I'm going with CO for a nice change.

Sorry you didn't enjoy your time here, SLCrising. Obviously, everyone can't live happily in one state. Hopefully your new venture makes you happier!
