Hi... My family & I are visiting SLC in about 2 weeks. I've never been there. Can anyone give me some ideas of things to do and/or see? Shops? Places to Eat? We've got about 2 young kids and 2 teens...Also bringing the grandparents and they love casinos. Are there any there? We are traveling in a group of 14, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The Gateway Mall is a fun place if you like shopping. It's an outdoor mall (shops inside but walk to stores outside) Typical of California malls.
Closest casino is in Wendover, Nevada...approx 2 hours away on I-80 West

Couldn't resist, but really, what does mean *about* ..... ????

All seriousness aside,
- to do and see ? Usually the Temple Grounds and whatever else is connected to that institution.
- if you like outdoorsy stuff, you definitively need to go into the mountains or somewhere up high.
- shopping, the usual malls as mentioned above.
- food .. almost anything you like ... very good buffet style eateries also, like Rodizios (Brazilian). For Chinese, a must is Little World. A hole in the wall place but the most authentic Chinese food I have tasted.
Stay away form the mundane style buffets.
For BBQ, Dave's BBQ, where your food is served on a *trash can lid* ...
Seafood - The Crab Shack ??
Wannabee Japanese ? Teppanyaki ?

Another casino is Ft. Hall in Idaho.

You could head up to Park City for some shopping and fun. They have an outlet mall called Tangers Outlet
Tanger Outlet Centers :: Park City, Utah Outlet Mall

The Canyons Resort in PC offers plenty of summer activities too.
The Canyons :: The Canyons Resort in Park City, UT- Utah's largest ski and snowboard resort.

You can take in This is the Place State Park in SLC for a fun, educational experience.
This Is The Place Heritage Park

Or Hogle Zoo
https://www.hoglezoo.org/

We have several amusement areas
Lagoon L A G O O N - Fun Starts Here!
Cherry Hill campground and waterpark Cherry Hill
Boondocks Fun Center Welcome to Boondocks :: Boondocks Fun Center, Inc. :: Draper, Utah
Classic Skating and Fun Center Sandy - Classic Fun Center
Clark Planetarium and IMAX theater CLARK PLANETARIUM :: A Salt Lake County Facility

Don't forget pictures of the Great Salt Lake and a trip to Antelope Island is always fun!
Antelope Island State Park | Utah.com

Utah is the chain restaurant capital, so you will no trouble finding something to eat. If you want something more Utahish, you can try Ruth's Diner up Emigration Canyon (by the zoo), Sconecutter's (fast food, numerous locations), The Roof Restarant atop the Joseph Smith building in Temple Square, or The Lion House Pantry Restaurant located in Temple Square.

The visit would not be complete without a horse drawn carriage ride through downtown highlighting the sights of Utah. You can pick up a carriage at Temple Square.

Enjoy your visit!

Just as we have NO casinos in UT, we have NO smoking in any building. Restaurants have no smoking sections, just in case any of you smoke.

A trip up to the Kennecott mine and museum might be interesting. It's one of 2 things you can see from space w/o a telescope. It was quite interesting to look down into the mine (open pit). Near there is the Gardner Village, a collection of pioneer-era buildings with shops and a restaurant. Pretty interesting.

We have wonderful indoor pools w/kids pools w/buckets, a slide, etc. So, if you would like a break, bring swimsuits.

Temple Square is beautiful with wonderful plants/flowers. A lot of fountains, which my grandkids love.

Utah and Hawaii share the distinction of being the only two states that allow no gambling whatsoever. Here are some things you could do:

1. Drive up Mill Creek Canyon and either picnic or eat at Log Haven.
2. Drive up to Park City and walk up and down mainstreet than take the kids to ride the Alpine Slide.
3. Someone else mentioned Lagoon Amusement Park in Farmington (15 miles north of SLC) Its a great one day experience for kids and adults might enjoy talking and picnicking in the boweries they have at the park.
4. Drive up to Heber than to Kamas and into the High Uintas for a excursion. Stop at the Provo River Falls. I'm guessing there is still plenty of snow at the top at Mirror Lake, so you may not want to go that far.
5. Walk through the many church attractions at Temple Square. Don't miss the tour of the roof of the Church Conference Center.
6. Spend sometime shopping and browsing at the Gateway Mall. You can take in the Planetarium here or watch a movie if you are so inclined.
7. Have lunch at the Mayan Restaurant in Sandy and let the kids watch the cliff divers jump along with the light show.
8. Walk through the Red Butte Gardens and Arboretum near the University of Utah Campus.
9. Drive out to Antelope Island and see the Great Salt Lake close up.
10. Go down to Provo and drive from Provo to Heber through Provo Canyon. You might want to stop at Bridal Veil Falls.

Also, the Gateway has a large fountain that springs up from the pavement, set to music. Kids - and people - walk or run through it. My grandkids loved it. On a hot day, it's a perfect cool-down.

Oh, and with that many people, many places will give a group discount for admission. Be sure to ask!

The Clark Planetarium at the Gateway has free exhibits, very interesting place! Of course they also have 3D movies and star shows.

Utah's Off Broadway Theatre is A LOT of fun. The comedy improv show is hilarious, but not for little kids. We were going there, but caught the "play" instead (had our times mixed up), and just saw "Utahoma", it was fun and there were younger kids there.

The alpine slide and coaster in Park City are great to do to!

It's been mentioned on a few threads before this, but I enjoy going to the mountains, especially on a hot summers day. And it's been getting hot here.

Park City Resort has lots of fun activities that an entire family can enjoy: zipline, alpine slide, horse back riding, etc. They've also got some new attractions but I haven't been recently. Their website is: Park City Mountain Resort

Snowbird Ski Resort also offers some of the same activities, plus a tram ride to the top of Hidden Peak where you can see in every direction for miles and miles. It's pretty cool, and very nice on a sunny day. Their site is: Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort - Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah. Your Utah mountain vacation destination.. I know for a fact that Snowbird gives group discounts on their tickets if you call ahead, I'm unsure of the group size (10 or more, I think).

And if you're looking for something good to eat, try the Red Iguana! http://www.rediguana.com
