I fly out tomorrow (domestic flight).

What is the security line like there since the Christmas terrorist attempt? Do I need to get there much earlier than normal? Are they really hand-checking all carry-on bags, or just at the international terminal?

I dropped the family off early Saturday morning. Flight at 9:30 and we were launching from the house at 7:20. It is usually 15 minutes to terminal 2. After listening to the news that morning, I decided that we had better go at 7. There was very little activity at the curb for Delta so I was pretty surprised to get a phone call that they had only 5 minutes to wait at the gate. They were surprised at how far they had to strip down, the amount of time going through the carry on etc. At work later in the day, I was surprised to hear from people coming to SLC from the east coast that nothing seemed out of the ordinary and they had breezed through security. It sounds like the SLC TSA is taking all of this pretty serious-I would give yourself an extra 30 minutes minimum.

I flew into SLC this week. I noticed airport security, and it was running totally smoothly. They were taking a little extra precaution in checking ID's (thoroughly scanning your ID with a little blue light to ensure validity) but other than that, the line seemed to be moving fine. They had TSA officials down by the airline gates who were randomly screening some passengers as they were boarding, but other than that it was just about normal. I'd allow yourself about an hour and a half before your flight.

I flew through Salt Lake on the 31st from Canada and we were not allowed any carryons on board, but on my connecting flight I was allowed one carryon.

Thanks all. We had absolutely no wait at 11am. Kids were pretty bored waiting, and complained about having to be there early... but you never know, I guess.
