Well I will try not to make this too long I lived in Colorado, Denver and suburbs for 7 years. I know it well and loved it. I hvae been to Moab once and SLC 2x and loved it. I moved to NC 2 years ago to help out parents with health issues. but I am not an east coaster I love the west. I am moving to SLC I have weigh all the pros and cons of SLC and Suburbs vs. Denver and suburbs. So I would ask this tthread not to go in which one is better. I think SLC peronsonally, not jsut SLC but Utah statewide has more for me. Anyways. I am 34 year old single male. I am not LDS I am not that religous but I do not care what religon someone is or is not. I am very active love outdoors, skiing in the winter, mountain biking in the summer, anything outdoors really. Love some nightlife, I am not the crazy party animal but some night life would be nice. I would like to live in a nice area close to things, but not sure of all the areas out there. I have heard of so many cities around slc within a few miles just like CO but not sure where to go. I can tell you I will be renting an apartment for now. So something thats nice, a place where the view is good. I love going out to eat so some restuarant around near by, not just fast food Anygood real hilly areas near the base of the mountains? Did I mention I work from home, so thats what makes it tougher to meet people. Orginally I was torn between Denver and SLC, becuase in Denver I knew all teh cool hot spots, or cool spots with a view or unique and quirky things to do etcc. Those are things I am excited to learn about SLC. I do love how it takes no time to get to the mountains or ski resorts like it does in CO. I am sorry this is so long just looking for some help of someone whom is there or you never know you might meet a new friend By the way I do work from home but nothing scary I work in the financial services industry as a trader. Thanks in advance for your replies!

Ranger

I have heard good things about the Irving Schoolhouse Apartments on 2100 South near 1300 East. It is in the middle of Sugar House area, close to I-80. 2100 South itself is a 4-lane cross town street (well, 4-lanes for a long time). The apts are across the street from the Sugar House Center: Barnes&Noble, Whole Foods, Petco, at least 1 non-chain restaurant, Lone Star Steakhouse, many restaurants along the stretch of 2100 South, Chevron, Starbucks, a grocery, Walgreens, etc.

There are also apts along Foothills Blvd, at the base of the mountians but I don';t know any names and they aren't walkable areas. Sugar House is hilly to an extent.

Another area is the university area. The Avenues (1st Ave, 2nd Ave, etc) is a hilly area with some apartments closer to the U of U end. Close to TRAX (you can take your bike on any bus or TRAX train) which runs downtown and down into the valley. Good luck!

I'd recommend either the downtown area (my 30-year old son lives downtown and loves it) or the area around the University of Utah.

The U is close to downtown, and connected via trax.

I think somewhere along Foothill Dr would be good. I know there's a big complex there that was recently remodeled.

Ranger, I wish you the best of luck! I am a Coloradoan myself and stuck in VA and have discovered I am not an east coast person. Hate it out here. DH has looked at transferring to SLC himself and hope it feels like home like CO. Hope you get out there quickly!

Thanks Froggin, Its funny I have been trying to compare the 2. Obviously what I know and like about Colorado , and all the little things even down to the Park Meadows Mall if you know that place I am a big scenery person. I grew up in the east and been basically out west for the past 10 years or so. I am not a fan of the east at all, I grew up in Florida and then after college lived in Jersey and NYC. I lived in Castle rock, Colorado Springs, Denver, and Parker. SO I am trying to find the equivlent of those places and the way its set up citywise with views on nice rolling hills etc in SLC. Do you have plans to go back home?

Wow, you could be related to DH! He was born and raised in FL too. Fort Carson brought him to COS where we met. We both love CO, the mountains, scenery, people, wildlife, camping, ATVing, etc. We used to live in Fountain and sold our house this last summer. I thought I would really enjoy it out here with all the trees but have found it makes me feel closed in. I have considered myself claustorphobic (sp?) but I guess so because I yearn so desperately to see out. When I have the opportunity to look out I always find myself saying "look how far you can see!".
We are wanting to return out west- would love to return to CO. Right now, DH has put in for a transfer to Hill AFB (we are civilian). I am a sped teacher- working with autism. I am working towards my BCBA so I can pretty much get a job anywhere.
We have never been to SLC but it sounds familiar to CO- especially Pueblo. I like the greener parts of CO but can deal with a drier climate- I used to live in AZ. I think ideally I would like to return to CO and live in Woodland Park or Monument.

I would take a hard look at the apartments at the Gateway - it is right downtown and walking distance to lots of fun bars and stuff. Plus the Gateway itself has good restaurants and a couple bars of its own. I had a friend live there for a couple years and loved it. New units with in a spectacular location.......
