things to boost the economy within the state of utah (mortgage, loan)

as everyone know i might be very controversial on certain subject...but that is what this site about to get as many different feed back, because i like to try to understand other people point of view as well. But i wanted to know from the people in the surrounding area of salt lake city metro area with these tough and hard economic times i do understand some people might not agree with do to the value and moral of the mormon church with there strict rules...

if Gov. Gary Herbert and the state Legisluture were to be open mined and wake up here are a few options to create more income for the state Utah and make the economy a whole lot better.

1. Utah needs to get rid of quota system which bars & restaurants can operate and survive within the restaurants industry, also by not having anymore liquor licenses your also losing new restaurants business who might want to open up in Utah.

2. another area were the state of Utah can do to add more job is having state casino and state lottery. which a percentage of that money can go towards schools and other projects in the state of Utah.

3. adding more state liquor stores in the state

4. having state run cannabis clubs were people can go to get marijuana for medical use only.

5.horse racing-can add some money with the state...but that area i don't know very much unless someone else can add there 2 cent on this area.

6.Utah should also try to add more hi-tech company to Utah.

last of all please get rid of sen chris buttars....not 12th grade in the schooling system.

as i said i know due to the church and the moral and within the state alot of you most likely will not agree towards any of these but you also half to look at it it would add and bring more jobs.

Since I'm from Ca I won't pretend to know anything about #'s 1 and 3.
I hope to be moved to Utah in about 18 months so this is kind of an interesting topic.

2. State run lotto is nothing but a cash grab from the politicians and is wasted money. Does not create jobs either. It is also the greatest tax ever invented for taxing the POOR. Middle class people don't typically spend there hard earned money on the lotto and wealthy people don't care and they didn't get wealthy gambling. Casinos are a joke out here in CA. they don't do much more than the lotto. Next time your in a State run or Indian casino just look around. The penny and nickle slots are packed and the rest of the place empty. You would have to build a massive amount of these to effect your employment #'s.

4. Who cares. Waste, all this does is hire a couple of $8 an hour hippies and 5 or 6 government jobs to drive around and see if the place is selling weed to the right people. Again kind of a waste, the money made will be spent on paying the state employees to do nothing.

5. Same as # 2 really you would have to build 300 to 400 of them to make a difference in the employment #'s. For the most part its poor people wasting money that we probably give them.

6. YES. Not the state government though, other than offer tax incentives to CA companies who are paying through the nose to do business here. I think Ive read that Utah has one of the highest educated populations in the country and you actually have many tech jobs now and many more to come. Go to silicon valley here and offer to pay the moving expenses to the mega tech company's and they will come. They all would like out.

Just keep the taxes down or lower them from where they are and continue to get ride of regulation and red tape and they will come. (Jobs) Don't get me wrong the government does serve a purpose but if you go like Ca and start depending on them to create jobs you will pay for it. All politicians can do is waste money and f things up on both sides. We are over $542 billion in the hole here and we are the 10 largest economy in the world. We are the leaders in the socialist movement, largest welfare rolls, major illegal immigrant problems, 10.75% tax rate, broke schools, roads falling apart, and a bunch of career politicians that don't want to see it end. Just do everything OPPOSITE of CA and you will be great. Please let the private sector create jobs not the Government. Don't raise taxes and don't regulate the free market. I could go on and on.

If it comes from a politicians mouth don't believe them. If there lips are moving they are lying. Listen to your local businesses small and large the private sector is the only way out of this mess.

So all Utah needs to jumpstart the economy is Casino Gambling, Horse Racing, More Booze, and Pot....

Do you think the residents and state coffers would actually see significant gains from these activities, or would funds be bilked by organized crime, corrupt officials and the like?

Also, you will need more police force and jails, drinking and gambling rehabilitation facilities and programs, public funds for spousal abuse, families who lost their homes to wife or hubby at the track with the mortgage payment.

Now I'm not saying Utah may not have to loosen up a little on the religion stigma and reputation for conservativism but I dunno about the wages of sin, that may be running a little too much in the other direction.

Wouldn't it be refreshing if Utah could grow it's economy without going there.

im not trying to say lets make salt lake city another las vegas but it's nothing wrong with having cannabis clubs because some people do need marijuana for medical used....since i started using marijuana for my medical i notice i don't have my seziure as much when i took my pillsi was in more pain and i was more sick which suppose to help me on out. but overall....any source of big business that comes into utah always helps out the economy and even the business i mention also help out as well...i say the area that would be more open is salt lake co,davis co,weber co. due to area being more diverse compare to utah co.

Gambling (including Lotto) can STAY OUT, as far as I'm concerned. With gambling comes loan shark businesses, pawn shops, and losers.

lolagranola having a state lottery does not come with loan shark businesses, having a lottery system in place if it's done right part of that money would go towards the utah schools, utah road work, and etc. and it's run by the state.

Great ideas. You forgot to mention Crackhouse Corners (tm), Brothel Blocks (tm), and legal prostitution (of course with a perctange of that going to education to help sugar-coat it). In fact, anything addicting will work. We might as well have the state profit off of it right?

About hi-tech, Utah and SLC are actually known for having a large amount of tech companies per capita. In fact, Utah Valley is where companies like WordPerfect and Novell started, as well as the newly Adobe acquired Omniture. Overstock.com, and Vehix.com are two notable companies headquartered in the Salt Lake area as well.

i don't think some of you really understand were and how these kind of business can help and put people back to work....i'm not trying to down grade the state of utah by no means....but i was looking at different area how things can profit the state. and mr. anderson i feel like you don't really get it either. i never mention about brothel or legal prostitution etc. no matter what kind of business it is nothing is ever perfect either. we can also say the local police department which is to protect and serve were you might have bad cops who take advantage with the badge.
