Hello all, We are a early 40's couple with 2 fifteen year old children (1 boy & 1 girl) My company is relocating to SLC out next to the airport at the end of the year and I was offered to relocate there. We are going for a visit to SLC this weekend 4/23-4/25 and will want to check out some area's to live near some high schools for the kids.

About us:
We are a middle class(barely..lol) blue collar type family.
Non practicing Catholics.
Looking to rent a house.
We would like to stay within 20 minutes or so drive from the airport(work).
We were wondering what neighborhoods and high schools you would suggest?
We understand the HIGH Mormon population and that does not bother the wife and I but we are concerned about our kids dating and social life in high school so are looking for an area with a lot of transplants like us if there is such a area.
Thanx, Scott & Chris

We moved to East Millcreek almost 2 years ago. We also have 1 child that is 15 and is attending Skyline High. It is a really good school. We are not members of any organized religion and we have made lots of friends. The Mr works out near the airport and his drive is 10-15 minutes but he leaves the house at 6:30. The drive can be a little bit longer if you go later in the am.. We love our area and there is a lot to do in the area and great access to everything..

Dating doesn't happen until 16 and a lot of LDS kids don't take it seriously at that point, so they might be open to dating non-members. It is all group dating also.

Not so many great areas right around the airport.
Mill creek is nice but a little bit of a drive, not bad though.
You will probably want to stay out of areas like Poplar Grove, some nice spots still left in Rose Park but it’s iffy.
Sugarhouse, Liberty Park, some nice things there. It’s not so much an LDS district, lots of diversity.
And plenty of rentals. You could easily do the airport in 20 min. Bad weather will take a little longer.
Schools - I don’t have a clue, sorry.

We rented a house in the Greater Avenues area of SLC. It is a nice area and the schools are good. The lower you go in the avenues the cheaper it should become. We are not LDS and while my daughter is in elementary school and not high school, a lot of her friends at school weren't LDS either. Sugarhouse and Havard & Yale area were also other areas we looked at to live. These are older smaller homes but I wouldn't live anywhere else if I had to move back.

I am usually a suburb person but SLC was the one place where living in the burbs did not appeal to me. SLC is a nice family town. Boring but nice. Good Luck with your move!

Oh and my step daughter (who was in high school) was going to live with us but decided to live with her mom, was going to go to high school in SLC. Our home was designated for West High and we were not too far from East High. SLC has an open enrollment for schools (by a certain date) so if you are not happy with the one you are zoned for you have a good chance to transfer to one that is a better fit. Any way both East and West High are good schools. Also look into Highland.

Murray!

It's close to I-215 and I-15, so getting to the airport would be a breeze.

It's a strong town/burb in the middle/east end of the valley. Murray School District is a great district, and parts of Murray are also in the Granite School District (Cottonwood High is in Murray).

Nice neighborhoods, family oriented, with older more established neighborhoods, so you have a stronger sense of community.

Murray was it's own town before places like Cottonwood Heights, South Jordan, Herriman, were ever incorporated, so they have an infrastructure that's established, with their own library system, their own parks and rec departments with Murray Park being a great park in the middle of the Valley.

Strong commercial base with Fashion Place Mall and all the surrounding commercial development. So, they have a strong local tax base with which to continue providing great services to their residents.

Ok...enough of my stumping for Murray!
