I'm traveling to Salt Lake City for the first time in June of next year. I'll be in the city for the U2 concert at Rice-Eccles Stadium on the campus of Utah University. I'll be flying in from Dallas. And I don't intend on renting a car.

I've never been to Salt Lake before. So I was hoping if any SLC residents here could give me some input.

I understand that Salt Lake has a light rail system called UTA TRAX that serves the entire city. I also understand that there is a light rail stop right outside Rice-Eccles Stadium on the University Line.

However, I'm tempted to find a hotel on the university campus itself, so that I could basically walk to and from the stadium on the day of the concert. I'm not sure that the TRAX will be available after the concert.

Should I book a hotel that is close to Rice-Eccles Stadium? Or should I book a hotel in the downtown area and take the light rail to/from the stadium?

What would be the most convenient (and least expensive) option?

What would you guys advise me to do?

AFAIK, the only hotel on campus is the Marriott. It's not too bad of a walk, I guess. But it might be pricy. What is your limit?

Downtown would give you more options. Check the regular hours on TRAX at http://www.rideuta.com/ridingUTA/sch...Schedules.aspx. There is indeed a stop right outside the stadium. It looks like the last train from that stop is at midnight on a Saturday.

However, it looks like that concert has been re-scheduled for May 23 or 24, don't remember. Better check!

Around $300. But I'm willing to go up to a maximum of $500 for the sake of better convenience.

Another Utah resident told me that I could book the Chase Suite on East 400th, and just walk to/from the stadium?

Is SLC a walkable city? Would it be safe to walk toward the downtown area at night after the concert?

If you're talking $300 a night, you can take your pick of a number of good hotels.

Yes, it's a walkable city. Plus, you can ride Trax free in the downtown area. The Trax University train runs until midnight. If I were you, I'd stay downtown. There's more to do than up on campus, and going back and forth between downtown and the campus is a piece of cake.
