It makes no difference.... NW, West, Far West, Far northwest, NE, SW.....whatever... San Antonio is one great big ghetto!

And just to head off any bickering - I'll reserve the right to my opinion, and you can have yours.... and we'll just respect each other's.

I can't believe no one has suggested West Northwest side (WNW).

(I miss orienteering with an old fashioned compass in Boy Scouts)

whups, i actually meant to say 151 but i said 90 instead. oh well, been too long to fix it now.

yeah my family gets into heated debates about it. i live on the northwest/far west side of town, and i'm guessing the stigma from the term west side is too much for the people to handle.

oh well, i'm wesside fo life yo...

I just avoid the whole thing. If someone asks where I live, I just say Potranco and 151 and let them decide what to call that side of town.

South Park Mall is Southwest Military Drive with the area around Flores or Roosevelt beginning to be SE Military Drive towards Brooks City Base. Around Old Pearsall, it comes Military Drive West or West Military Drive and stops at Potranco and begins again at 1604/Military Drive intersection.
I realize its a long road with lots of prefixes. My point was that it seems like a pretty staight road when i drive it. If one end is on the south east, then shouldnt the other end be called the southwest? (near 151 and 410) I guess there is a sharp curve north somewhere.

They quickly jumped and said, "Well, the west side is like...the west side...you know what I mean..." Of course I knew what they meant but in my eyes anything really south of Bandera is "west" to me and I'll readily admit my subjectivity..that's just the way I was raised...anything in the 10/410/1604 area to 281 was northwest to me. (see? So subjective!)

I saw someone post a picture some time ago that basically divided the city into a compass with 90 as the dividing line from north to south and 281 dividing us east and west. Speaking from that logic Culebra and 410 would be north west.
The dividing line between north and south is Commerce St. Streets change direction name north/south at Commerce such as Gen. Mc Mullen, Zarzamora etc. on the eastside of SA as well New Braunfels, Walters etc. South of Ingram Rd. to Hwy. 90 outside Loop 410 is far west, Marbach at 410 is designated SW Loop 410 the loop changes direction name NW to SW at W Military which also runs into W Commerce St.. Northwest outside 410 is Bandera Rd. to around Vance Jackson Rd., North Central Vance Jackson Rd. to around Wetmore Rd., Northeast Wetmore Rd. to around Binz Engleman or just south of the city Kirby. If you divide the city into just four quadrants then yes Culebra is northwest but then you are leaving to the east and west sides.

Ok I finally found a good map. Military drive does start going directly north after it passes 90 and 151. So military and 410 (between walmart and academy) is not as far south as I was imagining, meaning culebra and 410 is kinda sorta northwest. Still more west than north though.

I tried to find a some sort of map that would indicate the areas of North, West, South and East, but found none. Therefore it makes me wonder who decides what is where when adding it to description: West Side shooting leaves one injured, Suspect sought in North Side gun death‎ , South Side Is Becoming San Antonio's Hot Area , East Side native hopes for a revival ???
