I second Taqueria Aguascalientes. Very good food, if you go at noon you won't find a place to sit.

Just so your clear...1604 goes around San Antonio. You will not ever find Austin by using 1604, get off 1604 and go north on 281 or I 35.
As for a hole in the wall...Taco Haven downtown on South Presa is a good Tex Mex hole in the wall. They did upgrade and enlarge a few years ago, but it's the same owners and cooks.

Yep, they wear revealing clothes but the food is great!

If you're headed towards Austin, then you might want to make a bit of a detour into Cibolo. The easiest way is to go just past I-35 (if you're on 1604) and exit FM 78. Head towards Cibolo (past Randolph AFB) and a few miles on the right you'll find La Tortillita. You wont be disappointed.

Yes, that place is "Mexican Hooters." I am in the Texas Air National Guard and every drill weekend we try to go once to the Mexican Hooters. The food is pretty good and the "talent" isn't half bad either.

Hello,

At Wurzbach and IH-10 in the Collonade mall there is a little place that I believe is called Jalisco something or other.

I always enjoyed the food, great prices, just a little hole in the wall.

And yet another reason to look forward to moving, good authentic Tex-Mex.

thanks for all the suggestions! I ended up going to La Tortillita in Cibolo since it was close to I-35. I really liked the chips and the food was pretty tasty. From the outside it looks like a shack but it was really crowded inside. Service was really bad because they were short staffed; we waited almost an hour for our food. But since I went with an old friend, the waiting wasn't too bad. And we have enough leftovers for today's lunch!

Is that under the same management as the Taqueria Aguascalientes that just opened on Blanco Road at the entrance to Timberwood Park?
