I was on their sight the other day & I saw that the tuition rate seems to be very, very reasonable. Anyone know anything about this school? My child will be going to pre-k3 I am looking for a school close to downtown that is not outrageously priced. What I mean by that is $11000 for 10 months is too much for me.

I don't know anything about that specific school, but I did a lot of research on preschools near downtown/in downtown. We ended up choosing University Presbyterian Children's Center in Monte Vista, and my son loves it. It's about the tuition you mentioned above, but that's for full-time care (7:30 am to 5:30 pm) for 12 months. I've also heard great things about the pre-k programs at Laurel Heights Methodist Weekday School and St. Anthony School, both of which are in Monte Vista. My neighbor's son spent five year's at St. John's Lutheran Day School downtown, and they really liked it. I looked into it, and the rates were really reasonable. It just wasn't as conveniently located as the school my son attends now. Good luck with your search!

The Carver Academy is by Sunset Station and they offer scholarships and tuition assistance. I am unsure what grade level they start at but it might be worth looking into.

Carver starts at pre-K. We haven't dealt with the school but have with the community center and we like it.

How downtown do you need to be?
There are a number of places downtown that are sort of pre-schools/daycares.

*Green Acres on S. Main (just south of downtown) is about $100/week and is full day care. I'd say it's a little more daycare than pre-school, but is a good place to be. They do lots of field trips. start at 12 months

*St John's Lutheran, across from La Villita is also full day care with a focus on pre-school. It was about $600/month. Start with infants.

Our friends have recommended both, and while I really liked both, I felt they were a bit more daycare than pre-school. If I needed full day care though, I'd have definitely gone with one of them.

There are others in downtown proper but it's been a few years since I visited them.

just north of downtown is:
*St Paul's Montessori - $535/month (but with a tiered scale, so lower income pays less) for a standard day 7:55-3PM with some after school programs. It's more school-oriented than daycare. Start at 18 months. On grayson in the Government Hill area (east of Broadway)

*Acorn School - kindy pricey at ~$500/month for 3 hours per day 4 days per week, a little less for 2 or 3 days per week. No option for full day. On Broadway near Brack park. Lots of kids from Alamo Heights area.

*Circle School - east off Broadway, same vicinity as Acorn School. About $500/month also, but varies a bit. You're expected to do at least 10 hours of community work per month at the school, and can barter the tuition down a bit. That's for the 8-3 school day, more for after school care.

These are all to the east of downtown, and Little Flower is on the West, so not sure if that's too far for you.
