Yes, some of us are as hairy as gorillas! Some women as well.

My grandmother says that back in the 60s she used to get her hair straight at the hair salon.
The sylist would simply use the same solution that was used for giving perms to make hair curly, except instead of using curlers they would comb the solution throught the hair, while making sure the hair remained perfectly straight while it was being timed.
The price was the same as for a perm to make curls.
She said the straight effect lasted about 3-6 months (same length of time as a regular perm lasts)

In Time Magazine it talks about this

Quote:
Siobhan O'Connor and Alexandra Spunt had decided to get Brazilian Blowouts — only to find out later that the secret straightening ingredient was formaldehyde, a known carcinogen.
Eww formaldehyde in your hair gross.

My sister had this done but she bought the stuff and convinced her husband to do it for her. It lasted roughly a month but she is one of those that believes straight hair is preferable to curly hair. I disagree. My hair is super curly and I like that I can have it both ways, i.e. straighten it for the night if I want that look or keep it curly, whereas when women use curling irons to curl their hair it never looks as nice as natural curl.

For those in the know, would you happen to recommend a reputable place that does these?

My girlfriend has curly hair-which I find beautiful-however she wants it temporarily straightened.

Thanks!
I wife bought a chia and it works like a charm

I offer the brazilian blowout in buda tx and realize that this is not a hair straightening treatment it is a hair smoothing treatment so if you have curl it can help smooth the hair and release some of the curl but mostly it is going to smooth the hair so that you have less frizz but you will still be able to style curly or straight. Just make sure when receiving this treatment with curly hair you state in the beginning of the service that you would like your hair straight and you would like to get rid of all of the curl that you can. Hope this helps.

There is no formaldehyde in the brazilian blowout the main ingredients are amino acids and a proprietary polymer system. This is the only product that puts back nutrients to the hair.
