I haven't found any. Even Taco Cabana is better in El Paso than in San Antonio. One good thing about San Antonio's Mexican food is we do NOT have Chico's Tacos! I have never understood why El Pasoans go crazy for that stuff.

Only thing that comes to mind would be (if it's still even open) is Canyon Cafe in the quarry. Think that's supposed to be like southwestern Mexican food from what I understand.

I'm not familiar with the food from El Paso, but if you state what you are looking for exactly, we might be able to point you in the right direction.

Authentic Tex-Mex is not as common as it once was. The Taquerias are becoming more common which reflect the changing demographics.

Authentic Tex-Mex must have sharp cheddar cheese, lots of beef products, and chile (hot sauce).

It is always served with flour tortillas though corn can be a legitimate but rare preference which used to have to be asked for specifically.

Barbacoa never comes with onions or cilantro in Tex-Mex either.

Fajitas are a must, refried beans, chili (con carne), etc...

How exactly does El Paso Mexican food compare to this? It is closer to authentic Mexican and less an amalgamation of Mexican and American food?

There are a couple places that I can think of in San Antonio that are close to authentic Mexican:

- Taco Palenque on Loop 410 between Broadway and Nacogdoches.
- Dona Tota on San Pedro near North Star Mall makes great tamales.

Isn't Mexican food in El Paso like that in New Mexico, covered in green sauce? Just curious.

El Paso Mexican food? As in which Mexican restaurant in El Paso?

I sure do wish I had your problem.

I am in El Paso trying to make the big move to San Antonio.

If I stay here any longer I am going to have to buy a bullet proof vest. El Paso is turning into the New Juarez.

Be thankful you are in San Antonio, the greatest city in Texas.

Sincerely,
Ricky
