Does anyone know if there is a book store in SA who have really great authors come for book signings or tours? I've visited a huge bookstore in Austin called, book people and they have great authors visit. Just wondering about SA! Anyway, just looking for where I can see good authors come visit! Thanks!

I wish there was a place like Book People in SA. The last one I went to had the author for DANCES WITH WOLVES and he was promoting his latest book, which will become the sequel to the film. Great place. Up close and personal with the authors.

Sigh....one of my disappointments about San Antonio. When I lived in Santa Barbara we had a WONDERFUL bookstore called The Earthling that had great authors nights.

I haven't found anything like it in San Antonio. The Big Box Bookstores (Borders, BN) do have author readings/signings, they're just not the same. There are some independent or smaller used book stores in town, but I've not heard about any readings at them.

If someone wants to give me some start up $$$$, this has been my dream - to open an independent bookstore in one of the historic houses in Southtown, maybe with a wine bar in the garden , and have great authors visiting.... I'd model it after Earthling. But I don't have the cash. So it's still a fantasy.

I'll put you on my list of " if I ever win the lottery" things. That sounds great. For now the best I can do is a buck. Sorry.

ok, make it two!!

My daughter and husband are the big readers these days. I'm still trying to get use to my glasses. Hate to think how long it's been since I have just sat down to read for pleasure. But I still love books

Oh, I love to read too...I just don't have enough time! That used to be my favorite thing in the summer as a kid...reading and going to the library. I love it!

I guess I'll just stick with Book People and see what authors come to visit and if it's worth the drive!

If you go I'll go with you and keep you company. I know I'll get flamed for saying this but I really really miss Austin.

In the Sunday paper - whichever section has the book reviews (maybe Life and Culturas section?), they do list author visits coming up in the next week. The Twig bookstore (5005 Broadway) is mentioned somewhat often. I haven't been to any author visits there yet, but I think it might be your best bet in town. I did want to go this week because Rick Riordan was going to be there, but I wasn't able to leave school in time.
Here is a link to the upcoming events listing at The Twig: Twig Book Shop Event Calendar (http://thetwig.booksense.com/NASApp/store/IndexJsp;jsessionid=bac_0Yr6vlmdugAjvwGPr?s=storee vents - broken link)

I agree that nothing in the area currently rivals Book People, but I would at least rather go to a local store rather than one of the big chains.

Along the same lines sort of...is there a good book club on the far west side of SA? I live near Potranco and 1604. Thanks!
