Ok, before I get flamed on, I know there are tons of "job" threads on this forum. I'm trying to be a little different though. Most of the time people are looking for post college careers on here.

As a city, I was wondering if we could start a thread on the pre-college jobs. Basically my girlfriend is going to school and in need of a job. Not a career at this point, just something to pay the bills.

So my thought is if you're out and about on the town and you see a place with a "now hiring" sign....post it here. Anything....(salon hiring, gas station hiring, daycare hiring, restaurant hiring, etc.) Something to help out those in need during this stressed economic times we all face.

Thoughts? (flame suit on.....just in case)

Bill Millers is almost always hiring - the one at 1604/281 had a sign up over the weekend, I know.

Your best bet is to look in the classifieds.

Actually, the Classifieds are pretty much a joke any more - given the cost of taking out an ad, many companies no longer go that route it seems. And Craigslist....seems like 90% of the stuff is scam!

^^^^^^^^^^^
Thanks. Pretty much what I was thinking.

I do appreciate the responses, but there are enough people on these forums that collectively we could network to help a greater cause.

I'm not just trying to help my girlfriend, but really anybody who is searching for a job.

I agree - many of us roam the city, so if we see/hear of something, this'd be a great place to put it!

I got plenty of interviews from CL when I was looking for work. Granted, it was non-profit, so it was a bit different..but still. Scammy things get flagged pretty quickly on there. When I was looking I flagged stuff al lthe time (and still do every once in a while). The CL community isn't too bad.

And nismospec, if your girlfriend already has in idea of what she's majoring in/what she wants to do there's no harm in looking for a part-time job in the field she's looking for a job in. That's a great way to get your foot in the door. Lots of people do it and these days it sometimes seems like the only way.

understood Ashbeeigh, but she comes from a family who cannot afford to support her. in otherwords, she needs full time work in order to sustain a means of living to support herself and the family. she's through 1/2 of her school towards an education degree, just trying to make ends meet.

again, not trying to play the sympathy card, and this is to help her, but not about her.

ex. I was at Autozone yesterday off of Wurzbach/I-10 and I noticed that "Tuesday Morning" was hiring.
that's what i'm trying to start here...
