I think the rain really sets the construction back especially in the early stages when they need to do a lot of dirt work and pour a lot of concrete.

Also, I believe the Vistana is a for lease only building.

I'm sure the rain set things back. But, it looks like they're only building one (wider) tower instead of two (on www.vidorraliving.com)...I'm not sure whether they scaled back the number of units or combined the same number into one.

Had a chance to drive by the site this afternoon, and the steel reinforcement beams are in place, as is the base for the tower crane. The Vistana site looks just about the same, so I'd expect to see a couple of new cranes to pop up in a week or so that'll complement the ones at the CC hotel. It's almost like the departure of the rain has made them pop up like daisies

Tower 1 is the first tower they're working on. It is a little wider than the original design and will have more units, but Tower 2 is still being planned for and will fit on the site. The rendering on Vidorra's website is just the first tower, but does not negate the possibility of the second tower.

At the most recent luncheon, the general contractor went over the construction schedule and told us when the tower crane would go up. I can't remember exactly when it was to be (shoulda been taking notes! ), but pretty sure that it was sometime this month or next. They're actually assembled/constructed on site and have to drill 4 piers that are like 70ft deep for them. Not a quick "stick it on the site" operation. I'd love to learn more about it, pretty darned interesting!

Thanks for the info jules, I've always loved constructions and cranes and basically any type of huge machinery. And after seeing all the cranes Austin has around their downtown, I'm not afraid to admit to a little inferiority complex living here in SA That should change by this fall, however, with the downtown projects and the Broadway all getting started (not to mention that Austin has nothing as massive as the Grand Hyatt, which has added a fourth crane to the site )

Koontz-McCombs (the developer for the Broadway) sound like they'd like to do more condos in SA. Maybe you should contact them.

You better believe I'd be first in line for even the smallest apt in the Broadway if I could afford it!
