I had the chance to sit with him at a luncheon a couple months ago and he was one of the nicest, most genuine people I have ever met.

I think that he was an incredible coup for San Antonio.

It's funny how in the span of a year the city was able to vote in Mayor Hardberger and then land Sheryl Sculley and Bill McManus, those are top notch people at their positions.

I do some volunteering associated with the police department, and on the last day of training, toward the end of the day, in strode Chief McManus, in full uniform, to thank us and wish us well.
He did not have to come to the station on a Saturday, in uniform, but he did; just to thank us and explain how important our contribution is.
I was very impressed with this gentleman.

That's really neat. I'm glad to see that he is trying so hard to make the police force a welcoming place for all people.

Well done, Chief McManus!

That's what I like to see, city authorities supporting ALL facets of their city's population.

Now get me a sheriff who'll sign on NFA items and I'll be happy as the proverbial clam.

Sorry, can't agree with this at all. My taxes should be spent getting rid of pedophiles in our area, not parading around on my dole.

1StarRanch,

While I wholeheartedly agree that "getting rid of pedophiles" is an excellent use of law enforcement tax dollars, regardless of the area in question, spending a day to extend an arm in friendship/support to a minority group doesn't seem like a wasted to me.

I'd like to think our city can managed both tasks, given time, planning and diligence.

All politicians need to spend time parading, if they didn't they wouldn't have a job. Anyone who thinks that the chief of police isn't a political job doesn't know much about the position.
I commend McManus for making a stand where many people would wuss out.
