This question is for San Antonio high school football fans from the 70's and 80's. Does anyone remember a local magazine published in the 70's and 80's that previewed San Antonio and South Texas high school football? I believe the name of the magazine was called "San Antonio High School Football", or something along those lines. The magazine did a better job in covering local San Antonio area teams than Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine. I really miss those magazines and wish I would of kept some of them.

I remember the magazine and actually still have one. It was called Ron Lammert's San Antonio/South Texas Football. It had excellent coverage of san antonio high school football. The issue I still have is from 1984. The cover of the magazine predicts Madison, Marshall, and Holmes to be the teams to beat. I can't remember how Madison or Holmes did, but I know Marshall didn't even make the play-offs. It was great magazine and I wish it would have stayed around longer.

You had to bring up 1984, didn't you. I had this same magazine and, as a Marshall student, was very excited about the season. We tied Judson in the first game of the season (they were defending state champs), but then lost badly to Madison later on. We finished 5-4-1, which in today's everyone-goes-to-the-playoffs era would have been ok, but back then left us out. I agree that it was a great magazine.

I think Madison ended up winning the city championship.

Yep, Madison was the City Champ in '84. Got to the state semis before losing to Beaumont French.

If you're BIG into high school football in Texas, I highly recommend The Online Encyclopedia For Texas High School Football, THSFpedia. Link is:

Just to give an update, I recently found an old issue of Ron Lammert's San Antonio Area Football magazine. Brings back good memories of the S.A. High School football scene back in the 80s.
