On mysanantonio.com there's a search for city and county employees salaries so if you know someone employed by either one, it's a quick find.

Be advised that at least as far as City employees salaries, the mysanantonio lisitng is at least a couple of years out of date. In fact, there are some people on the list whose salaries are shown below the range minimum in effect for a particular title at the time mysanantonio posted it.

I think this link should provide up to date salary ranges for City positions, if you enter a specific title:

San Antonio is not a tech town. That being said, there is one huge player in the web hosting industry that has their base of operations here. I'm not going to name names, but those that live here know who I am talking about.

I make more than skeet09's other half, and I do work there, but I'm also more experienced.

Good luck, as others have said, trying to find out pay rates though. Tech jobs anywhere are very uptight about employees not sharing their pay rates because they pay everyone differently, and if someone else doing my same job made less than me were to find out that I'm making a lot more than him/her, then it would create a jealousy that could make for an unpleasant working environment.

My last post was done before I read the entire thread. Basically, what others have said, you can make anywhere from $30k (~$15/hr) on up, DoE.

One other thing to keep in mind is that San Antonio does have a decent number of bigger name colleges and universities; St. Mary's, Incarnate Word, UTSA, SWTSU is close by (relatively), Northeast Lakeview, etc. There are a lot of people that are still going to school for "tech" positions. So if you are a college student, you will be competing with all of those other college students for the lower end of the pay spectrum, unless you demonstrate in some way that you are exceptionally gifted in whatever your chosen profession is, however.

Why be coy? As you said anyone that's been in SA more than a week knows who you're talking about. For everyone else, I don't mind naming names: Rackspace.

The only reason it would create upset among employees is if the employer is paying people doing the same job, with similar leves of experience and basically the same level of performance notably different levels of pay (or some other situation similarly or even more unfair). If this is true then the employer deserves the unrest that comes about as a result until they remedy the situation.

Now, if someone is jealous of someone else's pay that has more experience or performs better than them, who cares? Everyone reasonable knows they're being ridiculous in that case. If many people in a workplace are willing to parlay that into a lot of drama, then they probably don't have enough work to do.

The reason I was being coy at the time was because at the time, I was a brand new employee there (I didnt mention that, I know) and didn't know exactly how much I was allowed to say about my involvement with them. Now that I'm more familiar with their policies.... I'm more open to being less coy.

You are correct on both counts, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't happen and that employees who discuss it don't get fired because of those types of things. I have no clue if Rackspace is doing that, but I also rather not find out, so I choose to not say exactly how much I make publicly.
