May be relocating to San Antonio due to husband's job. Will give up my income to go to Pharmacy school. Need family friendly area with great schools (2 boys 3rd and 6th grade) but reducing home budget to <$250 (<$200 even better). Husband's job near Riverwalk. Very active family, swimmers and mtn bikers. From online research really drawn to hill country near gov't canyon. Any suggestions? Will visit the area in 2 weeks for final interview and would like to look while there.

If you're drawn to Government Canyon area then Northside (NISD) will be a great fit.

I'm in your same position. We've been looking into Helotes, Schertz, Cibolo (and even New Braunfels). If you find anything that you like and meet your reqs, let me know! It's not easy to pinpoint a good location when you don't know anything about the area! So far, our friends who have relocated (due to change in station) have relocated to New Braunfels (they love it there), Helotes (like it a lot) and Stone Oak (complain about the costs...).

Good luck!

alamo heights is nice, but you aren't going to find much under 200k or 250k for that matter. North East ISD and Northside ISD have good reps, but it still depends on the area and the leadership of the school. Really do your homework and ask about particular schools, and you will get particular advice and comments. Schertz/Cibolo has good schools as well...Boerne, Comal etc..but you are getting further and further away from downtown.
