I need family portraits taken this Fall and would LOVE to find someone that will take them without costing me a limb.

I'm not looking to a photographer where I have to buy set packages... rather, someone with a really good camera and eye that might give me a disk with all the pictures on it and then I print however many I want and *I* choose the sizes. Do photographers like that exist? Almost like I pay them for their time (by the hour whatever...)
Any ideas?

Since digital cameras came out, everybody's a photographer. You might go through half a dozen 'people with cameras' and still not get anything worth displaying. Just for grins check to see how many of them are shooting in Auto mode.

anyone can shoot a picture! It's the photographer and what they do WITH the camera, and how they see things... is what makes a great picture.

Jeez, the OP is just looking for a good, inexpensive photographer to take a few family portraits. I think there are probably folks out there that have the equipment and skills to get the job done right without being overly expensive. I know several individuals who are amateur photographers who have a wonderful eye for the camera, but unfortunately none of them live in this area.

Still, I am sure they exist, and I hope you find one you like soon! I would suggest going to a few of the places locally that are commonly used for backdrops (Japanese Tea Gardens, the McNay Art Museum, etc) and seeing if there is anyone working those locations who might be within your price range.

Cheers! M2
