Ok, here it goes.

I was moving to Austin, but now my plans may have changed.

So, I am a Michigan CICU Nurse. I was in SA when I was in the Army, and I have family and friends in SA.

I make $30.98. I will have 7 years exp. I will probably be at 33.00 an hour when I get down there, with my BSN.

My hospital is a union hospital, but not a national union. We only represent our hospital nurses and pharmacists.

Before you all rant on unions, my union president gets paid a straight 40 hour a week paycheck, and all other positions are filled by floor nurses. You come to work drunk, you are fired. You no call no show, you are fired. None of that UAW protecting employees who screw up.

Back to my point, what do SA hospitals pay? I am looking for a hospital that doesn't make new people work all the holidays. I work every other holiday.

I am looking for 12 hour shifts.

Are there public hospitals?

What kind of benefits you all have? I pay 70 a month, with a 20/30/40 copay on meds, plus 20 for office visits.

Thanks.

Here's a list of S.A. hospitals: Hospitals The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce San Antonio, TX

Public hospitals would be the University Health System. No unions here but I believe each hospital system has a small section on their Human Resources section on the benefits available.

Good luck!

SA also has many call centers here with representation from insurance, disease management, case management and research entities of which most of offer M-F schedules weekends, holidays off and work at home options if you're interested in leaving the hospital environment.
