The "Live" service connects the radar detector (which has GPS) to your cell phone via bluetooth. The cell phone has an app that is basically a google map of the city. Whenever my detector (and others who have the "Live" service) detects a threat, it uploads the info to the "cloud" and then my app informs me of the time and location of the other drivers' threats received. It is really cool technology.

It is completely dependent on volume usage though, so I am wondering who else in SA uses it.
Considering how inaccurate local traffic reporting is for GPS, I'm not sure I'd trust this "feature" any more.

Plus, cops love busting people with radar detectors. They do it all the time, and they always get a good laugh when they do!

I was trying out Waze app but I don't really like it in terms of safety. I am not comfortable texting and driving so using an iphone app while driving feels even worse to me.

I really don't know how people do waze updates while driving. I would like to know that.

Don't care for that "feature" as it's subscription based for starters. And I've never been busted for speeding while using a detector. The one I have detects "instant on" radar. In this case the "instant on" radar operates on lower power setting (shorter detection range for detectors) while it detects a "target" then goes to full power instantly to clock said target. If you learn to read your detector correctly you're pretty much safe.

Agreed regarding safety. The Escort one communicates to your cell phone and the radar detector unit, which talks to you, so you don't really *have* to look at your phone.

There's not traffic reporting. The only report is radar detections, location, and how long ago it occurred.

It lets you know if there is a radar threat coming up in your direction of travel, based on another driver who has experienced the threat. That is all.

All a radar detector does is tell you "you just got clocked, watch for the lights." But if you insist on having a radar detector, buy a Valentine One.

Also, some police radar units, if in standby, will turn themselves on when a motorist with a radar detector passes.

I considered a v1, but ended up getting an Escort 9500ix instead. Happy with the decision.

The Escort One seems like a cool unit. Can it be out of plain sight during operation of the vehicle?

Never owned a radar detector so i am clueless about the differences between all of them.
