"In Sue Warner's case she had read in The Wall Street Journal the previous month that a jury rights group, the Fully Informed Jury Association, had been created to spread the word to jurors that they have an absolute power to refuse to follow the law if they consider it unjust. This power, known as Jury Nullification, has been used often in death penalty cases throughout history, most notably in Britain in the nineteenth century when juries rebelled against capital punishment for petty theft and other minor offenses." -Stephen J. Adler; 'THE JURY'

There's nothing like being away on some lone dirt road off the beaten path and the only sound to be heard is the occasional bird chirping and the wind blowing through the trees.

Hunt lane and Military: Nice lady in a lexus looks at me, asks me to roll my windows down. I was on the phone, it was the morning rushour and a parade of school buses, make up applyers, coffee drinkers, and pedestrian school age kids ebbed and flowed. I turned and she said "There's an accident further down, you can get in front of me if you like". I said THANK YOU! .... for restoring a little of my lost faith in the erosion of societal caring and compassion.

As much as suburbia is a repulsive entanglement of pavement, brick facades, two-stories, and commuters chasing the clocks in their cars to get to work in time - it still has some bright spots.

Nice. There are always a few polite, thoughtful, and all around bright people who will consider others around them. Always a joy to run into them.

Dear Son,

You and mommy will be fine. See, if I don't die, she's going to end up cheating and marrying the 3-time DWI druggie anyway. He will be your daddy. And if I happen to survive, you will spend your entire teenage years telling me that he is everything that I couldn't be as a father, and that he is your real father. And I will continue to faithfully pay child support for all those years until you are emancipated. And after that, you can tell me how much you hate me because you were raised by a lunatic of a mother who refuses to grow up. See? Dying is better.

Love,
Dad

P.S. Choose carefully who you marry.
