The problem is when people talk s.... all the time but they don't explain why they are saying that.

It's not the same to hear a person saying "I hate this, I hate that..." that somebody telling you the reason they hate things.

I just saw on Good Morning America that the unemployment rate for those with college degrees is 5.1% and 10% for those with high school diplomas.

Could this be the reason why Wheel of Fortune does not come to San Antonio? You have admit the contestants on the show have to be somewhat smart and I am sure they do a lot of pre-show screening.

That reminds me of that quote from Dean Wermer in "Animal House."

"Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son."

Seriously, if anyone here doesn't think there is an education problem in SA, they must live under a rock. Talking with many of my coworkers, most people do not even know financial aid and loans exist. When I tell them, they seem insulted because they think financial aid is something for people on welfare. They are shcocked when I tell them that the majority of Ivy League students are on some sort of financial aid. Do SA schools even have guidance counselors to prepare students and parents for the college application process or are parents really that uninvolved with their kids' education?

Yes and I work with one of the programs. However, the programs are limited to a number of SA schools and students must go through a application process. We want students who are unfamiliar with the college process but are motivated to succeed.
However, we are not employees of the school and the guidance counselors that are employed by the schools have a very large student to staff ratio. We are seeing schools dedicate some funds towards having a employee solely dedicated to college readiness/awareness. The guidance counselors can focus on the state testing, class registration, etc.
We are seeing that parents are becoming more involved in their children's education which can be attributed to the economy. A lot of the issues is that there is a lot of misinformation out there as you stated about financial aid seen as welfare or students unfamiliar with how degree plans are setup or the college path to become a doctor or lawyer.

So many people her in the 30 and under group speak a version of English quite similar to the pidgin English spoken in Hawaii. It's very sad. Even more sad is college grads who can't spell or even write well.

I have had the misfortune of working with MBAs who cannot convey a single thought, construct a simple sentence, or articulate an idea. I often find myself embarrassed to hear them speak or read an email they have sloppily assembled. No one is asking for perfection and I am not a scholar, elitist, well traveled or well read, but I can fake it....at least attempt to fake it on some level especially when your signature line includes your "credentials." I am starting to believe more and more graduates googled their way through college.
