What is the best place for a black lesbian couple to move to in San Antonio, Texas. We plan on starting a family and I have a degree in Human Resource Management and my partner has an associates in Digital Media Design, which is mainly Graphic Design. We are just looking for a safe accepting area. We don't mean we need to see a million lesbian couples in the town, we just want to be able to walk down the street holding hands without having EVERYONE staring at us.What communities and/or area would be best for us?

Midtown comes to mind. The area has several neighborhoods, some are run down, some are small enclaves of more pricey housing. It is by far the most liberal area in town with many things going on for it.

I am certain though others will be able to be more specific.

As Merovee stated above Midtown is probably the most accepting, but to be honest there is no neighborhood where you won't be stared at here in San Antonio. "Out" couples aren't a norm here. Good thing is, it'll only be stares. They may not be used to it here, but people aren't going to go out of their way to make you uncomfortable.

You can Direct Message me if you if like, I may be of some assistance.

Some easy places to find LGBT or Black women to network with is Meetup.com. There are a few groups that may be of interest to you on there.

Good luck on your search!

Lavaca/Southtown. Any stares will be "Oh! New people in the 'hood! I want to meet them!" esp if you have kids.

Southtown/King William

I've lived here for 4 years and as an out gay man with a partner, I've never had issues, felt odd or lived anything less than a 100% out lifestyle. It's an artistic neighborhood with a variety of housing options, eateries, events and points of view. I highly recommend heading down to Blue Star Arts Complex, parking your car and walking around the hood a bit. San Antonio is, surprisingly, an easy place to be gay and happy in. Folks who's lives revolve around the bar scene complain almost constantly, but since it's something I don't really tinker with, I love this city on a variety of levels.

Welcome to San Antonio

Great point especially because Midtown has a large club/bar scene element.

Beautiful lofts around and near Southtown too.

But when you're starting a family, as this couple has already stated, there's little to no reason to live near that scene.

I detest that when, as a gay man or woman, you ask where to live in a city, so many people immediately recommend a spot close to the bars and clubs. I find it to be ridiculous and just plain uninformed. Seriously, when people mention that they're religious in nature, would you immediately recommend them living behind Cornerstone Church? Of course not.

Not all of the GLBT community goes to bars, drinks and then dances the night away. There are some of us who prefer a much more quiet lifestyle that allow us to ingrain into a neighborhood and ultimately combat the still-around stereotype.

Good points again.

There is more than just bars and clubs in Midtown though. Not sure if it is totally unsuitable for families. King William is more sleepy for sure, has a more concentrated arts scene, and Bowie elementary. I knew it was liberal just did not know it was as opening to the GBLT community as Midtown was. You learn something new everyday (:
