French Creole is Creole and not French. It is too different to even be considered a dialect of French.

Creole language - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yiddish is a fusion of several different languages.

You can't have it both ways. Either they are speaking a dialect of Spanish in an improper form or they are speaking a completely different language based on Spanish. I could easily pass an English class in Canada, the UK, or Australia.

International Spelling Police Alert!

All the creoles that live around here are french speaking. It is a dialect. They all communicate with each other just fine, mais la.

A creole is a creole and a dialect is a dialect. I was once watching an E.R. reality show and the episode was in a Louisiana hospital. A doctor who knew how to speak French couldn't communicate with a French creole speaking patient and had to find another doctor to translate. I'm sure they can mostly understand each other, but not enough to be discussing medical issues.

creole language definition of creole language in the Free Online Encyclopedia.

Dialect | Define Dialect at Dictionary.com

Dialect is a variety of a language and a creole is a separate language of its own based on a pidgin (a simple form of another language) language.

Back on topic. I've never bought tamales at a restaurant, maybe I will one day but the lines scare me. I remember my mother buying tamales from elderly ladies knocking on doors, but that probably isn't too smart. Oh well, we lived.

Didn't mean to derail this....it was just an interesting story. Anyways...good luck with your search. Perhaps get some from each and try them and use the ones you like best. I sometimes like putting Wolf Brand Chili and cheese on them.

Wolf Brand Chili on enchiladas is puro Tex-Mex home-cooked food. The way my parents ate them, the way I eat them still.

Tamale, tamal? I would be interested in how other locals naturally say it and whether they are native Tejanos, Texans, or more recent immigrants.

For most of my life I called it a tamal-eh or tamal-ee until recently. Now it's a tamal but that's just me being anal. The Wolf Brand Chili thing was recent as well. Growing up I always ate em plain but since trying it a few years ago I can't let a season go without having them like that a few times.

Thank you for the suggestions. I think I may try the few recommended and then decide which I like best.
I am going to have a Mexican Fiesta for my son's first birthday on the 23rd of December and I have decided to have tamales. They need to be good!

People around here RAVE about Ruben's and I think they are gross.....they're greasy and just not very tasteful to me. Tellez are a bit better, IMO. The best ones I've had are from random ladies....friend of a friend type-thing and they come around with foil-wrapped, warm tamales and ask if you'd like a dozen. Can't beat those.

And don't waste your time with the HEB ones. <gag>

The ones you get at all the major names are just horrible. Mystery meat at its finest. Guess I'm used to the home made variety. Believe it or not, HEB makes a pretty good tamale. Not the packaged kind, but the ones made fresh in store. There's probably more, but the only 2 locations I know of that make them are the store at 410 & Bandera and the new Plus! on Marbach.

I was referring to their packaged ones in my previous post. I didn't know they made a fresh one......I would give them a try.
