Manuals might be tricky to learn at first but they sure are lots of fun.

Wellll, except when you have a cold and have that achy painy feeling in every joint of your body and are stuck in stop and go traffic....

and I defy anyone to tell me that stopping on a steep hill with someone right on your bumper and the light changes green your heart isn't beating a mite faster as you let the clutch out......

I hate teaching a newbie, their clutch work is terrible and you wind up with whip lash...

No matter what, stick with it, go out on an early Sunday morning in one of the big mall parking lots and practice the clutch/gas pedal interaction. Once you got that down you are 70% there.....

Which rental companies rent out manuals? I have never seen one anymore. Americans can't drive manuals if their lives depended on it!

Hey that hurts, I've driven manual transmissions since the 3 on the tree days..... All 4 of my kids can drive manuals, my only teaching failure was my ex-wife, she never got it, doomed to drive automatics her entire life....

Look at Avis, they have manual transmission cars for rent.

I think if THEY think you are serious about buying a car they might. You do have a TDL, right?

Hey it's worth a try and if one dealership turns you down there are others you can go to..

Whats TDL? And yeah here's a good idea i might try

"The easiest way is to go to the dealership and tell them you want to buy a stick shift but dont know how to drive one.

The sales man will typically take the time out to give you a crash course to get the sale during the week when it is slow.

It will be harder on the weekend but it works."

Hey, mikephlurry, renting one of those manual trannies for a day from Avis can actually run $50 or less. I'd totally be willing to split it with you just so I could get some practice on it, too, haha! Plus, a ride in your RX-8 when you finally get it so I can gauge your progress....and my teaching ability
