the point of this thread was to take a swipe san antonio. i'm sure the
risqué and too sophisticated for San Antonio OP certainly knew how to use Google to easily arrive at their answer.

If you are going to swipe at SA- get it right. This city is not ultra conservative and never has been. The city is sheltered when it comes to food & the arts. With that said, there are enough people here to support the Bijou and limited releases elsewhere. This film may get wider distribution after the Oscars.

The Bijou showed Brokeback Mountain (a fantastic movie, by the way - beautifully done). I'm sure they'll show Black Swan. I can't wait - looks like an amazing movie! (And I LOVE the Bijou, for all kinds of reasons!)

I enjoy the Bijou I just wish they'd turn the heat up a tanch. I look forward to seeing this movie, I hope they will have a showing.

(I'm having a "thread blender" moment with this one about Black Swan and the one below about the fresh goose. Hee!)

I have noticed that the AMC Huebner Oaks shows some Art House titles. Haven't had a chance to see any yet, but sounds like they would be the kind of theater that would get Black Swan.

Well in the movie someone is trying to cook her goose I think lol

That someone just might be her very own doppelganger.

Black Swan is another incredible film by Aronofsky and Natalie Portman gives the performance of her career (well, so far). Definitely an Oscar-nomination will be coming her way.

SA does support the arts, but we're selective in what we fund and see. I can't say this city is as diverse as other places I've lived, but eventually, we do get most everything that passes as 'cosmopolitan' here in San Antonio. Along with Swan, I'm hoping for a showing of Jim Carrey's new film I Love You Phillip Morris, which is another limited-release, but already well-reviewed, film.

UPDATE: Bijou and another theater in town will debut 'Black Swan' on 12/17.

I had a chance to see it the other night at The Magnolia in Dallas: It's a fantastic film and if Portman doesn't get an Oscar for this role, the Academy has lost not only their way, but their common sense. She's sensational.

A truly visceral, frightening, fascinating and intricate piece of movie. It's been awhile since I've seen a film like this... One that requires, no, DEMANDS your attention. You can't take your eyes off of it.
