He has our numbers...he also has my e-mail address, if the listing agent forwarded my e-mail to him. It's his house, if he wants his money, he knows where we are and how to contact us.

FINALLY heard from his property manager. As WCat said, he moved back to California.....apparently told the manager to manage his other 2 properties, but just told him about ours now. So, I told him I'll get a check in the mail tomorrow. The guy wanted me to deposit the money in his BoA account, but I'd rather write a check. Call me old fashioned, but if I don't go to BoA, why should I for him? Anyway, it just slows down our timeline for moving....more like June than now.

Haha!....sometimes I get lucky. I'm usually researching historical topics, but sometimes something like this comes in handy.

Craig.....I agree. Considering the time you've spent trying to be responsible, I would not go overboard to make the property manager happy. Chances are your owner may be needing that money yesterday. He should have thought about that before leaving you in the lurch with no back up property manager when you needed him.

I'm questioning this. The property owner "told" him to manage the property and the property manager asked you to deposit the money directly into his account?
Sounds like there is no written agreement between the owner and property manager. Is this a widely known property managing company? I would ask the property manager for documentation showing that he is authorized to accept rent payments on the owner's behalf.....Otherwise

It's a real estate agent. I checked his website and it is valid.

Ummmm......until you hear FROM THE OWNER IN WRITING, do NOT send ANYONE money other than the owner himself!! Otherwise, how do you know you're not being put into the middle of some kind of con job ("hey, dude - I HAVE to manage that property for you - your tenants are already paying me!"). Uh-uh, ain't NO way that's gonna happen!

Not to belabor the point, but anybody can build a website. And without having authorization in writing, how can the agent legally represent the owner? What about your deposit? Who has it? How is the agent going to know the condition of the property prior to your moving in versus moving out? Is the agent's bank account he asked you to deposit the money in a separate rental account from his personal or business account? Cannot co-mingle the monies

I got a phone call from the owner this afternoon with his California address and phone numbers. He wants me to send him the rent, so I'm all good with that.

Interesting....yet "his Realtor" told you that HE would be managing the property for him....did you tell your landlord about that?
